On June 7, 2014 Ron from Southwest Curbing located at 25491 Fortran Drive, P**** Gorda, Florida came to my home to give me an estimate for the cost of curbing. I decided on a 5 inch non-designed curb with the color being sandstone. The approximate cost was $837.20. I asked about the treated wood beams that were in the ground and asked if I should remove them. He said no, the guys will do that. He then outlined where I wanted the curbing. I asked about the possibility of rain and he said he monitors that and wouldn?t pour if there was rain in the forecast.
Due to travel and weather, the curbing finally got poured on July 12th. Had I not been there the wrong mold would have been used. I asked about them removing the wood as I had figured that?s where the curbing would go. One of the guy said in broken English that it wasn?t on the work order. So I started to get a shovel to dig them out. They eventually helped me in doing the rest.
Then came the pouring of the curbing. I don?t know if low grade sand was used because the results were a muddy finish and streaky. The color wasn?t consistent. Around one palm tree was a streak of red; most likely the result of poor mixing. One area would be somewhat clear and clean and then you have the ?muddy? part show up.
It took 3 hours to pour all the curbing and when they finished with that, they started to put plastic on the curbing. The north side, front of the house and two front palm tree rings hadn?t even had a couple of hours to set and dry. Now the plastic goes on this?..to protect it from rain. Well, if it was going to rain why did they pour?
Then the Spanish speaking person went around with a wheeled device to measure how much was poured. It was measured on the outside of the curbing. Doing it this way ?adds? to what was NOT poured and I my opinion not the right way as you are now making extra money. From what was suppose to be approximiately 322 linear feet turned out to be 349 linear feet?.an additional 27 feet or an extra $70.20. Why don?t machines have a ?counters? on them so you know exactly how much is being poured? This way you can?t cheat the customer into paying for more that they never got.
The next day I get up early and take all the plastic off and hose it down per instructions. To my horror the areas that were poured last exhibited the wrinkles from the plastic. The wrinkles were now ?fossilized? into my curbing showing a slight discoloration.
I waited 4 weeks as I was instructed to allow it to cure. The color didn?t blend in at all. Where they first started to pour, on the south side of my house the curbing was a bright, almost orangish color for abou 12 feet?not even coming close to the sample I had selected. Then five feet behind that the color went muddy and it continued onto the other side of the air conditioner. I was not happy. I had my neighbor who was also looking to have them do their curbing walk around and look at it. He agreed that is wan?t that great of a job.
I called the company back and Ron came out to look at what was poured. I expressed my dissatisfaction of the complete job and asked to have it redone ? all of it at no charge to me. He said he would come back sometime during an afternoon to look at it again as this was morning light. I informed him that for the past 4 weeks I saw this curbing at various times ? morning, afternoon and late evening and the color was the same. It was a terrible job.
A week later I called their office and asked what had been decided upon. The girl in the office replied that Ron had gone out and marked what needed to be replaced. The only small piece to be replaced was what was first poured, that amounted to about 25 feet of curbing. I come home and find a white streak of paint on the curbing that was first poured. I called the office the next day and said they forgot to mark the rest of it. She said she would talk to Ron and have him call me. Never got a call back from him. About a week later, during the day, (as I work 40 hours a week and can?t be home) his crew came and replaced the ?marked? curbing. My neighbor came over and showed them the rest of the poured curbing and they couldn?t believe how it turned out. All but admitting that it was a crappy job.
I called their office again and asked if they planned on replacing the rest and I got the ?I?ll talk to Ron and have him call you? reply. No phone call from Ron.
I called one more time, September 11th and asked again what was decided upon. I was then informed that at this time Ron is not doing anything more.
