The man that came insulted me after I was shell shocked at the price he gave me 475 dollors and then told me to do it myself if it was so easy! And then charged me 79 bucks for looking at it. I had another plumber come in ( Wellworth plumbing) and a very nice guy and did the whole job for 103.50. Well worth it.

Was surprised, this morning, when the City Water Meter Reader knocked on my door and advised me that we had a leak in our connection to the meter.  He showed me the water that was streaming from the leak and recommended that I contact a plumber right away to get the problem resolved. I called Ben Franklin, and the Operator was extremely courteous and professional, and explained that the company charges $79.00 for a service call, and rather than charging an hourly rate, has an established set fee scale for repairs once the Technician determines the problem. She advised that they could have a Technician on scene in approximately three hours. I received a call a few minutes later, from the Dispatcher, advising me that a Technician was free sooner than expected and would be at my home within a half hour if that would work for me, which I was happy to hear as I wanted the problem resolved as soon as possible.  She then offered, for safety purposes, to e-mail a photo of the Technician, so I would recognize him when he arrived.  The Technician, John, was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and professional. He explained that he believed that the leak was right at the connection point to the meter, and would have to dig out the surrounding area in order to access the leak (and showed me the set fee scale for that part of the job), and explained that he would then have to replace the connector (and showed me the set fee scale for that part of the job).  He explained that he would have to shut off the water to the house in order to repair the leak.  After receiving my approval for the cost ($497.00), he went right to work and completed the repair within two hours. the cost was admittedly probably a bit more expensive than some other local plumbers may have charged, but my husband and I were so happy with the courteous and professional manner, and feel confident that the repairs were done correctly, that it was worth paying a little more.

We were out of state and a friend found a leak behind refriderator.  They came promptly and replaced whole house shut off and replaced filter on refrigerator.  Later when we were back in Fl we had them come back to check individual shutoffs. Very good but pricey.

Called Ben Franklin Plumbing. Was told that plumber would contact me withing 30 minutes which he did.  He explained what might be causing the problem. He told me that he would arrive withing the hour which he did. He went into great detail on what the cause of the problem was. He then gave us an up front price which was excellent. He then proceeded to use is equipment to clean the drains from our house to the street.  This fixed the problem immediately.  He then cam into the house and examined the toilets, giving us tips on what we could do to prevent this from happening again. I am very satisfied and will use them in the future.

John arrived as scheduled, surveyed the problem, and explained what needed to be done. He was courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. Even with inclement weather, John's patience and knowledge enabled him to quickly complete the repairs. My drip problems were solved! No more water being wasted and increasing my water bill!!! John walked me out to show what he did and explained the difference between the old and new valves. As a long time customer (back when they were Aqua Dimensions Plumbing Services), I have come to depend on their professionalism, trustworthiness, and friendly, personal experience. I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbers.

The repairman was on time and professional. Once the level of work was determined he quickly made the repairs. Price was the only issue.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"This is in response to the review that was posted on Angie’s list: We would like to thank you for taking the time to the grade our services and we are happy that all of the most important items graded were given an “A” but we are truly sorry that we failed when it came to demonstrating the value. We strive to provide 100% client satisfaction as that is our #1 priority. We always quote the prices before we do the work which requires the client to authorize the work prior to us starting the job. We have found it very difficult to respond to online reviews when we have not been given the opportunity to compare the company or the work that is being quoted to confirm we comparing apples to apples. We did provide a quote with three different water heater options. Our lifetime warranty water heater option and our 10 year warranty water heater option were both over the $1500.00 that you mentioned in your review. The third option included a water heater with a 6 year warranty on the parts, 6 year warranty on the tank from leaking and an “unmatched 6 year labor warranty”. We included a discounted option for an add-on of the thermal expansion tank, an emergency shut off valve and all necessary permit fees and administration cost to apply for the permit. Also included was priority mailing of the permit to your home and handling the process needed to complete the building department’s inspection along with a one year club membership that included a complete preventative home inspection. When comparing our pricing to others we would ask that you answer the following questions. Did the other company respond or even answer their phone on Saturday as we did? Is the other company licensed and insured? Did they include a 6 year labor warranty to match the manufactures tank and parts warranty? Did your installation include a thermal expansion tank that is recommended by the manufacture when you’re on a closed system? Did they apply for a permit, the inspection pass and was those cost included when making your comparison? Please feel free to contact our office and request to speak with me if you have additional concerns or questions. Thank you, Matt Black General Manager"

Plumber called and arrived as planned and gave an estimate. The estimate is not free, it costs a minimum of $58 just to have someone come out whether you use them or not. Due to the holiday weekend coming we felt there was no choice but to use them even though the estimate was outrageous. They use a per job pay system which includes parts and labor. We had a new sink installed and switched the garbage disposal from one side to the other so the existing drains were misaligned. The new strainers were already installed, only needed the two drains set up plus the new under sink vent. The plumber had to spend a few minutes cutting and chipping out the existing pipes. The total job took him about an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours to complete plus a few parts, total bill was over $570.00. The job was done well and the plumber was professional. The task was a reasonably simple-straight forward job for any plumber. The real issue is the price, totally unreasonable and outrageous for such a small, simple task. I agreed to the price so that's on me but I would never use this company again simply because their pricing system is beyond reasonable, it's outrageous. I still can't believe I paid that amount of money. Never again with Ben Franklin, I plan to research and find a local plumber that has both a good reputation and fair pricing. I suggest you do the same so your not stuck in my situation.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Mr. (member name removed), We are sorry that our service pricing did not meet your expectations. I wish you would have shared your concerns with us directly as we do have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I was surprised to find a negative review since Mario had completed a follow up call on 5/28/2013 - 4 days after your work was completed. He called to make sure everything was working properly and that you were satisfied with the completed job. Mario had notated in your records that he had spoken with you and that you were 100% satisfied. We cannot resolve any issues if we are not made aware of them. We do charge by the job and not by the hour. We always quote the price upfront and receive written authorization to start the work. Our pricing structure is based on 25 plus years of experience and is an average of what the job should take. When the job takes a substantial amount of time longer than expected we never have anyone ask us to let them pay more because we did not quote enough money (and we do not change our price) but if a job goes a little better than expected then we are accused of overcharging. Your job had 30 minutes travel and 2.25 hours of on-site time. A total of 2.75 hours. You were quote the $59 service call, $477.00 to chip out the drain fitting and provide and install all of the new piping required to relocate the drains. That total was $536.00. You also had received a 2 year warranty on labor and material which is minimum 1 year longer than any other company in our service area. You were given an option to purchase and join our club membership program for $115. That membership entitles you to have a complete home inspection with a manufactures recommended water service that includes draining and flushing your water heater tank, testing the temperature and pressure safety relief valve, test the air pressure on the thermal expansion tank if one exist and tests all the electrical or gas components to make sure the heater is working at its optimal performance. It also entitled you to a 15% discount on that repair plus any other repairs for the next 12 months. You had chosen to sign up for this membership and it took you total investment to $570.60. You paid an additional $34.60 over the repair cost to have the benefits of this membership. We use to charge by the hour and when you have some people that work faster than the others you could have the exact same job done by to different people and the cost would be different. We don't feel that a home owner should be penalized for having the slower plumber sent to their home. I would be more than happy to discuss this matter and resolve your issue to a 100% satisfaction if you would like to contact me. Matt Black General Manager Benjamin Franklin Plumbing"

The service went well. They came out in the afternoon, gave me an exact estimate. Since the job would require about 8 hours, he came out the following day. I had cleaned out under the sinks to provide access. He cleaned up after himself completely. Very professional job. While I felt the price was a bit high (and the plumber told me it was more than some of their competitor's), they guaranteed their work. But
very satisfied with their work.

Plumbing work to include --
replacing of two toilets to handicapped fixtures
replace shower fixture
repair hot water heater (replace elements)
replaced most of household shut off valves
replaced hose fixture/bibs
replaced washer fill unit
installed whole house water filter and maintenance
replaced exterior well pump
in house pipe clean out when septic filled
Whole house check when City of PSL claimed I used 47,000 gallons of water in ONE MONTH; and to this day - city can not give explanation as there was NO LEAKS with any of my fixtures and/or pipes.
**BTW, there was one time when they were late -- and yes, they PAID me for MY TIME !!!!
Any time I have an issue -- they are here SAME DAY and I have, yet, had to pay for an emergency call as they have walked us through any situation to stop an emergency from getting worse. And that is to include working with me on the whole house leak check.
