Update, bryan barker returned in an attempt to fix things that were not done but paid for by us over a year ago. We told him we wanted only 3rd party contractors to come complete the work, not his company, as they had dropped the ball multiple times. He (bryan) instead brought both wilbur-a-sea (hvac) and Bayshore Electric ( Bayshore Electric, Inc.) to come do the work, but instead he asked them to be there so it looked like to us that they were doing the work. Once they were both done, I noted many code violations with the work and questioned each contractor, they each told me bryan wanted them there to look like they were doing the work. They both apologized with going along with the scheme to lie to us as a homeowner. Ed at bayshore even said Bryan didn't even pay him to come out and it was more of a favor, which explains non-insulated romex was exposed in the attic and wire connections were left exposed outside of junction boxes. Somehow amidst Bryan learning how to do this work for the first time while in my attic, he managed to leave the instructions that come inside new ducting inside, allowing it to be sucked into the exhaust fans he was supposed to be there fixing, further making the fan unusable. His response to me bringing that to his attention “ that’s a first, sorry” . It was also discovered after watching 2 youtube videos and reading the instructions that barker construction mounted the fans incorrectly as well, as they rotated them 90 degrees in the bracket, leaving one side unable to be secured. This was hands down one of the worst experiences with a GC I’ve ever seen or had, 3 other general contractors i’ve spoken with are blown away by the work or lack of by Barker Construction. If anyone wants pictures or videos of any of this experience, feel free to contact me. To add insult to injury, Bryan even tried getting me to remove all reviews after doing a half *** job and still hasn't replied after that failed attempt at correcting work that was paid for already but never completed. Not to mention he also didn’t seal our shower seat down properly allowing water to get underneath and outside the shower, still waiting for him to fix that mistake as well. We aren’t holding our breath. They also never sealed any of the bathroom exhaust fans we had installed, so all 3 will constantly have an air leak into the attic. It seems as we look closer at all work done by barker, we find mistakes and incomplete work everywhere, as we bring in new contractors to complete the work, they are floored by the lack of detail barker had when we paid them so much for each job.

Terrible. We hired Barker Construction to remodel 2 bathrooms and part of a master bedroom, at first it seemed like things were going great, the workers and management were friendly and on time. Then came the head aches with Bryan Barker trying to force us into using one of his tile suppliers that was charging more than 4x what our normal tile guys charged, big red flag. Each project took a few months when other contractors I spoke to were completing multiple similar projects in the same time frame. The suspicion grew as progress slowly crept and the GC became more and more absent. After ourselves having to step up and coordinate things getting done with the renovation ( which you pay a GC to do) , we realized we had picked an inexperienced GC as the company was owned by the father and gave the position to his son. When we would provide Bryan with a list of things that hadn’t been completed, he would get an attitude since he knew that furthered the payment installments ( something that could have been resolved by showing up to the job rather than let the handymen do it all). Once the both projects were completed (approx. 15k and 28k) and all bids that were agreed upon paid, they contacted us saying we owed more on top of everything, when we asked where and for an itemized breakdown, they refused and told us to just believe them. Then came the lies where Bryan told us it was all agreed upon via text, I asked where since all text threads were saved and I had screenshots of the exact conversation where he ignored my questions for days, upon stating I had the texts still, he went silent. It was later discovered this was an attempt for Barker to make up for all the lost wages with his guys having to come back to fix mistakes he should have been around to catch, on average he wouldn’t show up to the work site for anywhere from 2-3.5 weeks at a time. We decided to count the whole thing as a learning experience since it is common to run into GC’s that aren’t qualified, then we had contractor we hired to give us an estimate on installing lights in a separate bedroom than the master we had hired Barker to do, the contractor found that barker never hooked up ANY of the 3 bathroom vent fans, which means moisture was being blown into the attic and potentially damaging the roof as there is now warping taking place exactly where these vents should have exited the roof. As if that wasn’t a big enough shot in the gut after dealing with so many mistakes by Barker Construction, we also found that his handymen ( not electricians) decided to install the recessed lighting in the master themselves, in doing so they pushed the previous light mount into the attic instead of removing it and used it as a “junction box” which is against code since the box was not enclosed, creating a high chance of fire. The combination of having our bathroom vents blowing air around in the attic caused insulation to fall into these pseudo-junction boxes which could have potentially created a fire at any point. Luckily our separate contractor found this and removed all debris. Avoid using them at all costs, even after all of this I still contacted Barker first to give them a chance to make these CODE VIOLATIONS right, they ignored us. If anyone needs a list of actual GC’s in the Volusia area, I now have an extensive list of top notch people. I also sent pictures associated with the infractions and was ignored.
