We contracted Steve to help us with a raccoon that had gained access to our attic through the soffit of our roof. He came out and inspected our attic and didn?t find any evidence of a raccoon or babies still in the attic. He set a trap to try and capture the raccoon. He said he checked the trap daily but I didn?t always see him. He then said he did capture a raccoon but we never saw a raccoon in the trap or any proof he actually caught any animal. He then proceeded to use something that looked like mortar to seal off the areas of the roof where the soffit meets the roof. He also said he sprayed some kind of bio spray to hide any scent left behind so other raccoons would not be attracted to the smell.
On Thursday July 3, 2014 I heard a familiar noise in my attic. So I went outside with a flashlight and I could see where the area that was supposed to have been sealed had been pushed open by a raccoon the EXACT SAME LOCATION as the previous incident. I immediately placed a call to Steve so he could come out and take care of the problem since we were assured that his work would prevent further problems. Since it was late I expected to get a business answering machine. Instead Stave answered the phone. I informed him of the problem. He said it would be Monday before he could get to us since it was the 4th of July weekend. I then asked if there was anything I could do in the meantime he said I could do whatever I wanted to.
Monday came and went with no call or sign of Steve. I called him numerous time on Monday and Tuesday. Each time my calls when directly to voice mail. I finally called on a different number which he answered. But the call was disconnected when I said my name. Thinking it was a dropped call I called back. But this time it rang to voice mail. I never heard from him again.
I have since called two other companies to inspect my home. Both told me the intrusion prevention job he did might stop squirrels or rats but would not stop a raccoon. After a little search on the internet I discovered the difference in the techniques used to prevent animals from breaching the soffit. I can see where his technique would not stop a large animal like a raccoon. A recent inspection revealed he charged me to seal 7 access points but actually only did 6 of them. Recent search a ?bio spray? is often in effective and some even refer to it as snake oil treatment.
While the initial job seemed to be ok, time proved it was not adequate to stop a raccoon. Before you have this type of work performed do a little research on the proper way to seal an eave/soffit to prevent an animal from gaining access to your attic space. Also his handling of a follow up after his initial job was very unsatisfactory and unprofessional. I would not recommend his service to anyone. Especially since I now have to spend over $900 to have the job done right and have babies removed from my attic this time.
"When (member name removed) called about the issue, he became extremely rude and insulting when I informed him I would not be able to do anything until after the long weekend. Because of the rude manner with which he talked to me, I told him he needed to find an alternative contractor. There was no warranty with our original services as he chose aesthetics over function when asking us to complete the services."
