the beginning, I was really impressed with Red Oaks. Merle, our salesman, was nice and prompt and most important to me, he gave me the information I asked for in our estimate, the first time! They were the only company that did this. (I had asked for a breakdown of cost for each window as a shutter vs impact glass, and then what would the cost be if we removed certain windows etc so it was a little complicated, but he got it right the first try while no one else did.)
A few other things that stood out about Red Oaks: they painted our new front door (white) instead of just leaving it for us to have to paint (as all the other companies do); it did not cost much more at all to get the thicker (better at noise reduction) 7/16” glass instead of the 5/16” which most other companies offered; their glass was tinted at no extra charge. Also, 2 of the shutters were going to be installed over our pool screen (second story) and all the other companies were going to charge us to (or have us pay someone else to) remove sections of our pool screen for installation, then have to reattach the screen afterwards; instead Red Oaks built a scaffolding-type structure (with no damage to the house) so the guys could install the shutters without affecting the pool screen at all. This saved us some money!
Their price was 2nd lowest of all the estimates I got.
The install process went as well as can be expected I think. I was told it would take 2-3 days and it did not; the men were at our house full-time for 3 days, then I needed to be present for them to come by (or for inspections) on another 4 days, so it really took more like 7-8 days for it all to be done. This was spread out over 2 weeks so it did feel like it dragged on. That said, the company was great about staying in touch about what was going on.
I wish the inspection process had been better explained to
me so I knew what to expect and how that all worked; the inspector had to come
by twice which I guess is normal but I just wish I had been informed better.
Also, during the removal of our old windows, one window broke (I guess this
happens) and we are still finding glass shards in the garden below even though
the guys tried to clean it up.
Overall the install crew was great, led by Jaysen Matias. Friendly, fairly prompt (not always 100% on time but it seems like no vendors are in S Florida!!), and really went out of their way to make things look great. They took obvious pride in their work. They even went out of their way to do things like put our blinds back up after they were done (I don’t think other companies do this!) and because I am quite pregnant 2 of them were kind enough to move a rocking chair upstairs for me to the nursery – so nice.
I can’t say enough good things about how pleasant all of the Red Oaks staff were to deal with. Every time I called (which was often) I was greeted in a friendly manner and the few issues I encountered were addressed promptly and by someone with an obvious smile. I would highly recommend the company and Jaysen’s crew.
