chris sold my husband by showing up with an iPad and providing all the bells and whistles that my husband wanted.
we gave him a deposit of 10,000 dollars in april and we were promised the job would be finished for memorial day. the job took over four months to be completed. all the bells and whistles work but the sun shelf is not round as requested and the grout is not an uneven color but we are worn out and my husband will do the rest of the repairs himself.
there are too many pool companies to even bother calling this contractor.
I called the company to ask about doing the job with the same quote written up for me the previous year. They told me no, and that someone would have to come out and write a new job proposal.
An appointment was made, and Chris, who had also made the previous year's proposal, came again. Chris is friendly and professional, and he said that the price was the same as it was the previous year, so a proposal was made, and a contract signed, with a $500 cash/check deposit made. We explained to Chris the window of time we had before leaving for a 2 1/2 week trip. He gave us some dates just before our departure, and said that it could be finished before we left.
When Chris walked out the door with our deposit was basically the end of the professionalism and promptness. The job didn't get done before we left, and the company obviously doesn't communicate well with their subcontractors, because even after rescheduling the job for a date after our return, a worker came out the day before our departure saying he was ready to start the project. We explained that he couldn't, because we were leaving town (and we had already rescheduled it).
When we got back from our trip, the communication and lack of professionalism continued. Initially I was understanding and gentle in my communication, because they told me that certain weather conditions were necessary to do the job properly (which is true). However, after a while I learned that this also became a simple excuse for lack of punctuality and professionalism. Almost never could we reach someone on the telephone, and when we did, any kind of response would be a day or two later. Once the pool was drained, the work was supposed to commence the following day. Instead, ours didn't commence until four or five days later, even though there were suitable days with adequately clear, sunny weather. When the job did finally begin, the subcontractor who did the work was shocked when he learned that the pool had been emptied days earlier, and no one had come to continue.
After the preparatory work, the final step of applying the Diamond Brite was next. It was supposed to be done the following day, which was a nice day and perfect weather. When nobody showed up, I called that evening, and left a stern, but kind message, indicating that if someone didn't get out and get our job done, I was going to investigate ways to end my contract. That threat seemed to get some action, because I got a call the following day (with more excuses lathered on), and an appointment for the workers to come finish the job. That appointment was kept, and two days ago the job was completed.
The quality of the work seems to be good, and the price was comparable to other quotes that I had obtained the year before. I took this company because of how I was treated by Chris, and because of the recommendation of a neighbor. My mixed ratings, however, are based on the fact that many customers want and need a more exact schedule. Our job was just barely completed in time to do a long-ago scheduled baptism in the pool this Sunday (I'm a pastor). I'm usually quite merciful and slow to be critical, but after a while it became evident that the verbal promises and explanations to assuage my concerns about the lack of progress, were simply empty rhetoric. I can recommend this company for it's quality of work and the price, but not for it's responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism.
I told Chris that I was very sensitive to the amount of grout being left on the coping after the work my neighbor had done. He told me that they could not control that and that some grout may go into the gaps between the coping and the paver brick. The workman told me the same thing. That's really the only complaint I have since there was a mess on the paver brick that I feel could have been lessened with some pre-prep work or removal while the grout was still fresh. Now that it is hardened it is going to be very difficult to remove. That's my next project.
The Diamond Brite and tile/coping look great! I just wish I didn't have to deal with the grout situation.
I was also disappointed that Chris did not follow up after completion of the work since he had been such a good communicator before that.
I would not recommend this company to anyone, Their word means nothing.
I was initially impressed with Chris as he seemed personable, intelligent and knowledgeable. What I didn?t know about Chris but quickly learned is that since Chris was young in his career (which is ok if you have guidance ? like his father who I have never heard from) he clearly struggled with assembling his team, building loyalty on his team and lacked the ability to navigate difficult customer situations. I learned Chris also was ego driven, pretentious, hot tempered, could not effectively communicate and clearly had maturity issues; another sign of being a novice in his career. All of these attributes, or lack thereof resulted in the perfect storm for my situation!
I had numerous problems all involving Chris and his lack of communication; a business basic. The pool resurfacing and went well as did the coping, tiling, and rerunning of the return lines. I realized later that Sal when his worker dug the new lines he cut clear through my irrigation lines which I learned after rainy season was over and I turned on my sprinkler system. No one ever brought up the error at the time. I ended up reaching out to Chris and he did respond and said ?thank you for my feedback? never apologized, never offered to reimburse me the $300.00 to fix it, nothing!
Chris surveyed my patio which had a 75? French drain which also needed to be replaced and he quoted me $1000.00 to replace it, which I understood I needed it (this was a 20 year old pool and patio), he gave me no other options. Since I travel for my job I was in and out of town. Upon returning from a business trip and his contractors (although they say they don?t sub out jobs on their websites) I returned to find my patio almost finished and no drain installed! I questioned Chris and said they don?t always have to use it (which again was news to me as he never made it clear that it was even an option) anyway, he told me they ?must have? sloped the patio so the water would run off. I questioned him on why he didn?t partner with me on that decision?. Chris did offer to correct the issue but I wasn?t going to have my new patio ripped up again after my yard had been a mess for two months. He did return the $1000.00 for not completing the drain as promised. I would have preferred the drain as water pools all over the patio and under my furniture. Now I know you can?t slope a patio that is that big, Chris fed me a line and obviously forgot to include when he communicated with the patio contractor.
His team shut off the power to my entire home to rewire the pool equipment controller box upon installation while I was also away on a business trip sending my alarm down. Another rather important issue that I should have been brought into the loop on and yet again ?no call from Chris? or communication what so ever.
After installing a brand new operating system and variable speed pump I had numerous problems with it. Chris admitted that the VSP technology was so new that no one on his team had any working knowledge of the system. Of course he let me know that after he sold me the $2500.00 worth of equipment. He did have one of his sub-contractors (even though their website says they do not use subs) come out to try and help me. I have now had the vendor, Hayward come out and replace the driver head, TWICE!! I now question if this was the system for me and had reached out to Chris several time insisting that something wrong. Lastly he never bothered to check to see if the new equipment was ?talking to? my heater, which it clearly is not before they left the job. The heater does not work and cannot be operated from the hand held controller. I have emailed Chris and left numerous voice mails and have gotten no response. So much for the 10 year warranty! I never heard from Premiere again.
Premiere has dropped off the planet so I have no other option other than to resort to posting my negative experience. I strongly suggest that you choose another company for your swimming pool repairs. This company clearly will not make it in the competitive South Florida pool renovation market. Chris clearly lacks the attention to detail, forethought or follow-through to be successful in this industry.
If Premiere were to follow through I would want my heater connected to my controller and my irrigation repairs reimbursed. I don?t expect to hear from them again.
The workers did a good job and the pool looks good. The bad experience came when the worker asked us to write the balance due directly to the owner, Chris Hetzel, instead of the company. We were not comfortable with that being that we would have no proof that we paid the balance and a lien could be placed on our home, so we wrote the check out to Premier Pools. The next day I called to get instructions on the chemicals to add,how many gallons it took to fill the pool (for a discount on my water/sewer bill), when we could use our navigator (pool cleaner), and directions for using the LED light (changing colors, patterns, etc), no amswer, I left a message asking for a call back.
After two days and no return phone call, I called again and left another message, still no return. (I left messages on the office phone and his cell phone) Christmas came and things get busy, I understand. I called again on December 27 and the recording said they were closed for the holidays and would reopen on January 2. On January 3, I called again and left a message for a return call to answer some questions I had, still no response.I have given up trying to speak with Chris Hetzel at Premier Pools, and I have no confidence that if I have a warranty problem I will be able to get any service from them at all!
