I called the company and they explained all the costs and what they would do. If the leak is in the pool they will fix it with epoxy putty.
If it is in the pipes then they would provide an estimate to fix it. Also $100 of the $325 would apply to the cost to fix a leak in the pipe or elsewhere. Also they give you a 5 week warranty on the work. The pool technician showed up on time and was able to locate the leak in under 10 minutes. In my case the leak turned out to be in the skimmer and was repaired with epoxy putty. It's been 3 weeks now and no leaks.
To start, when I called about leak detection, they up charged me because of my pool size. They indicated they would do leak detection and repair for $375.00. My pool had been losing about 1.5 inches of water a day.
Their tech, Yuri, arrived on time. Their office called while he was onsite, before he started, and asked for my credit card number. Yuri then took out his leak detection microphone, walked around the pool for 10 minutes ( I timed him ), told me I had a leak in a pipe and he could not fix it. They charged me the full $375 and did not repair anything. He was there and gone in less than 30 minutes.
This was not what I expected nor negotiated.
They told me they would call me back on Monday with a repair estimate, and never did. A week later I received a $375 charge on my AMEX. I called three days later regarding the repair and the full charge amount without fixing anything and they had to call me back. To replace a cracked pipe under my pool deck they indicated would normally cost $1025 , but in my case they would and quot;onlyand quot; charge $925.00. They did not offer us any credit on the $375 charge. I never signed a work order agreeing to the amount. We are disputing their charge with AMEX.
This company is expensive, their sales tactics are not forthright, they are not responsive, and I would not use them again, nor recommend them to anyone. In my opinion a service call like this should have been no more than $150.00. Buyer beware.
I contacted Florida Leak Locators at the recommendation of the company that currently services my pool.
The process from scheduling to completion was a breeze. They were able to find the leak in the light fixture that had been installed by the previous owner. The repair, since it was a small problem, was included in the price I paid.
They asked that I monitor the water levels and if there's still a problem, they would come out and recheck at no additional cost.
So far, so good!
We received a report, both written and verbal of the findings as well as an estimate to perform the repair.
We will check around to validate the repair range and will probably have this company perform the repair.
Over the following few days I saw that the pool was still leaking over 3/4and quot; per day and so I called and advised Jeff. John returned the following day and suggested that the leak was and quot;outside the pool itselfand quot;, most likely the electrical conduit and that would necessitate some excavation work. He said that he would have Jeff call me with their next step. When I next spoke to Jeff I was told the cost would be another $800. At this point I was a little apprehensive and so I called another pool repair company for a second opinion.
At a cost of another $250, (Gene) the owner of the 2nd company came, after I had again refilled the pool to its normal level. Donning his wet suit he removed the light's housing and after his inspection told me that the previous work was not up to his standard.and that he saw no evidence that there was a need for any excavation work. Gene repaired the leak, was paid and departed. Now, several days after the 2nd repair visit, I've been carefully monitoring the water level and there is no longer a leak.
As far as Florida Leak Locators is concerned, I did have a follow up conversation with Jeff, a few days later, after the 2nd repair and we did review what had happened. To his credit, Jeff apologized for my disappointment and wo days later I received a check for the full amount along with a hand-written note of apology. Where their technical work might have disappointed me, I definitely appreciated their integrity and Jeff's professionalism.
