Curtis came to my home to quote a job for me. He seemed very sincere and followed up quickly with additional details on my job. He requested payment up front to buy plants, supplies. Once Curtis received my $1,400 payment he followed with a series of excuses pushing back his timeline one week after another - too many jobs ahead of mine, waiting for the plants to arrive, did not have the tools needed to complete the job. I requested a refund. Curtis said Jessica would send the refund as soon as possible. Then, more excuses followed. I see others had the same experience - Yelp, Better Business Bureau. BE AWARE!

On 4/8, came over and gave me an estimate to install sod and some sort of watering device for my backyard and told me it would be $2500, but he would take $500 off if I gave him a check for $2000 that day which I did. He also sent me a paid receipt via Gmail. He told me that the job would be done on April 24. Back around the beginning of April, the weather was still beautiful, but as it approached the April 24 install day, it was already in the 90s consistently almost a week and a half before that. When I called Curtis on April 23 to see if the installation would still be done on the 24th, he said no because we made changes to the type of sod I wanted. I asked him when he would install it, and he said maybe the next week. It was burning hot. My grass up front was drying out so quickly even watering it a lot, so I decided to cancel because he wasn t sure when he was coming for the installation. Didn t want to take the risk of losing all that money for dead grass. He said it would take a long time before I got a refund because he had to return everything. He said he was going to request a refund for April 25. On May 9, I followed up with him and he said he didn t hear back from them. On May 24 one month since cancellation, I followed up with him again. Told me they told him it would be refunded back to his credit card by the end of next week. I would have to wait until he had no money to give me. On May 31, I texted him again and he said they issued a refund, but he still hasn t gotten back his credit card yet. On June 5 I texted him again, and he said it still didn t post to the credit card. Will let me know when it does. On June 14, I texted him again and he was still saying it didn t come back to his credit card. Then he started telling me that his wife had surgery so it wouldn t be refunded till the next week. On June 21 I texted him again. He said he still didn t get a refund. Almost 2 months since he first requested it and after he already told me he got the refund. Now he s telling me he should get it any day now and when he did, he would let me know. I contacted him again on June 28. He said he still hasn t gotten it. Said Jessica is out of the office but will send it to me next week. On July 12 I texted him again, Jessica will send money soon. On July 18, no check, now says his Aunt is sick. On July 25, no check. Promise again by the end of the week. On August 2 no check. Said he would get with me over the weekend and that he ll be back Sunday morning. August 6. I texted him again. Now saying not till this week for sure!!! August 9, no check, promising another week from now. August 10 says waiting for more checks to post. August 19, no check. Still waiting for funds. September 6, blaming the rain now. September 12, now he s waiting on a check for the money he needs to give me. Will pay as soon as he receives it. September 19, now his niece had surgery, no check. Says he promises as soon as he gets it he will call me. September 26 texted him again and told him I contacted Angi and before I filled out the forms, I wanted to ask him one last time if he had the money for me. He said yes I would get the money back soon and he would contact Angi. I told him I was tired of his promises for almost 6 months now that I would be getting the check the next week and never receiving it. When he told me on May 31 that he finally had it refunded back to his credit card, why didn t he pay me way back then like he said he was going to? Over and over and over and over and over again the same response. I can t do this anymore. I think I ve been very patient, but the job was canceled back in April and his answers to my text messages are always the same. He promises he ll give it to me the next week or when the funds go back to his credit card and that never happens. If you would like copies of all the text messages that I am referring to, I will gladly send them to you.

Company was paid $4500.00 after initial appointment and agreement. Work was to star on 3/11/24, I reached out on 3/5/24 to confirm and the delay tactics started then. Week after week more excuses. I asked at the end of march to hold off one week due to other work being done at the house, then being an issue because of his delay. 4/18/24 I reached out to inform other work was completed. I was told the end of the week they would be out. By end of May I demanded work start or a refund. May 29th a gentleman came out with some kids and cut most of the old sod out. June 6th, I offered to take off some rock removal to hopefully speed up the process. June 12th irrigation was done (really not certain). June 26th I informed him that the grass was growing back, weeks prior to that more false promises. Since then excuse after excuse.

Never showed for the job. Paid in August and now its May. Took my money and did not do the job. Tried to get my money back and got the run around. It is gotten to the point that we are filing criminal charges.

Hired them in August. They never showed for the job. Gave him $3300 and he never showed. Got excuse after excuse to why he could not do the job. After 5 months, we demanded our money back. Got the run around. Only got $1000 back. We are filing criminal charges at this point. If you dont want to go through the court systems to get your money back, I would recommend going elsewhere.

I have been disappointed with Above Grounds service. They talk the talk but do not follow through with the promise. I was told Youll be satisfied, I promise. Once the job is paid for, you will not see them again. It better be right with their first attempt because you wont see them again.

I hired this company to install a sprinkler system in my yard. In the beginning it was great but I use *** who air rated my yard and broke several pipes. The pipes were NOT put in deep enough. I contacted Curtis to fix this and pay him. He never returned my text. I had to hire someone else. Please BEWARE! If I knew then what I know now. I am so upset! After 5K for the whole thing and I still had to hire someone else to fix my problem. So sad

Do not hire him and leave; you have money to give him for free, for no work. 

Curtis was very professional, informative and very nice. My walkway was installed in a timely manner and looks great.

The crew was efficient and professional. They worked well as a team and answered all our questions. They were friendly and easy to work with. I wish I had a reliable crew like this when I owned my home improvement business. The company kept us informed when they needed to change the start date.

They planted a tree for me. They were clean and professional.

They were incredibly quick in helping us get our tree straightened and were priced incredibly fairly. Communication was seamless and I could not recommend them enough. We will be hiring them again for future projects.

The owner was very helpful coming by to give me an estimate when it was convenient for me. The prices are very affordable . They kept me informed during the whole process . The staff was very polite and clean and paid great attention to every detail. Me and my family are very grateful and glad to do business with Above Ground landscaping.

This company is so amazing! Their quality of work is top notch. They did an amazing job on my project and I cannot wait to hire them for my next one!

They where very friendly an knew what they was doing got the job done fast an I love it

They showed up when they said they would. However, they acted rushed and did not do one area correctly and I had to correct it myself which was very difficult and stressful due to my physical limitations. I would supervise more closely should I ever hire them again, The job was not worth 1000.00 in my opinion. Cynthia Pxxxxx

Within the guarantee time, July 25, 2022 called Curtis about the grass that turned brown and died. He told me that the sod that he put down had a fungus, and he would replaced when he got new sod delivered. Curtis came to the house at that time to look at it. . June 26. 2023, still no sod replaced. - After numerous calls and texts, At that point I requested a refund. December 5, 2023 still no refund. From June to December of 2023 I have had promises that werenâ t kept,, saying I would get a refund of $1100. I was nice enough to tell him he only had to refund $1140, not the total $1520 because of the labor cost, I felt bad for him. During this time I also received a check from him written out for $140 instead of $1140, which I sent back to him for a correction. I have had over 50 excuses and empty promises and the bad check to stall even longer.

I payed this company in full to do some landscaping work back in July this year and here it is November 11 and still not done the entire project would probably only take about two days to complete. We havenâ t used our backyard at all this year because of broken promises from Curtis every week that they would be here. I have never dealt with a company like this. My suggestion would be to run not walk if you see them coming

After we hired this company, Curtis, the owner, showed up right away to collect an almost $10K deposit for our landscaping project which included sod, plantings, and an extensive stone patio and grilling area. The promised start date in mid-July passed, and nothing was done on our project for the next five weeks, with a new excuse for the delays every week! A crew finally came in August, put in some grass and a few plants in the front yard, which was never finished. A crew showed up weeks later to start the stone work, but they have only worked partial days on weekends. It is now November, and the stone work is still not finished. The latest fiasco was last week when two crews showed up to work on the patio, after our repeated complaints. A disagreement started between the two crews, ending in a fist fight on our property. Needless to say, we have fired this company and are now faced with finding someone to complete the job. Before you hire them, ask yourself if you feel really lucky. From the reviews online, it is obvious that some clients of Curtis and Above Ground Landscaping receive decent service Others are extremely frustrated with delays, broken promises and outright lies. We fall into the second group. They do not deserve even one star.

Beware this is not a company you can trust I paid in full upfront because of a discount they offered back in July here it is November and nothing is done probably going to take them to small claims court

Very poor service. Work was paid for in advance but never completed. Lots of empty promises. A Date palm was installed above ground instead of digging a hole - building up the sides, which are now falling aside. Paid for plant and trellis never materialized. Install dates come and went many times. Nothing Curtis promised has come to pass - too busy, will take care of it, out in the field dawn to dusk, I am ,sick, mom is sick......etc etc. If you hire this company - do not pay up front!!!!!!
