They're custom made. They're not standard size. It was a nice job.

A project that began with the sales person in March, finally concluded on Wednesday, October 28th - approximately 7 months!  What happened?  Interesting things:
  1. Delay #1: Eastern moved their factory, so the product was initially promised for the end of May but finally showed up in June.
  • Delay #2: Scheduling the installation was a challenge.  Between my schedule, the installers, and the rain it is a miracle that the windows did get installed.
  • Delay #3: After windows were delivered, there was no process for reviewing the product before the windows were installed.  Unfortunately there was a mix-up where a double-hung window was ordered, when it should have been a picture window, and a double-hung window was installed instead of a picture window.  The mistake was discovered after the double-hung window was installed. ALL assumed that the order was correct!
  • Delay #4: It took two months for the picture window to be made and delivered.  The installers finally arrived on Wednesday, October 28th to install the correct window.
.
What was missing in the overall process, was "Good Communication Skills."  That is, I had to call Practical Doors & Windows to find out what was happening.  Even though they knew that Eastern products would be delayed I was not informed until I asked the question.  No process to review/approve each window before they would be installed. Even with the installation of the final window, I needed to call in order to find out when it would be scheduled.
The installers were good.  However, as they worked if they discovered an issue or created an issue, it was not reported.  For example:  One window had a water stain on the inside.  It was when I cleaned the new window that I discovered the water stain.  House siding was damaged and patched, but not reported.  There was a promise that the house siding would be replaced.  That still has NOT happened!
Am I happy with the Eastern windows?  Yes!  The installers did do a good job.  But I've learned that when a project of this nature is taken on, the company that is coordinating the project needs to be a TOP NOTCH communicator.  Practical Doors and Windows needs to improve in this area, especially when an incident happens that they have no control over.  The customer needs to be informed as soon as possible that the schedule has changed because of an event they they could not change.

They were very prompt with the installation and the pre-install coordination was second to none. We have houses in Wisconsin and in Florida.  All proposals and coordination was done from our home in Wisconsin.  When we arrived in Florida, the installation was started right on time.  Everything was followed through per the original contract. Trying to coordinate a job this big from out of state is always a concern. I am very particular about the details and Jeff Reckson made it very easy to coordinate from out of state.
My wife and I were very pleased when the job was completed. Jeff had many ideas for us to consider which was helpful.

Jeff showed up on time and was polite and knowledgable.  After a long discussion about benefits, styles, prices, we decided to ask him for an estimate for 10 non-impact replacement windows including a picture window with two sliders, a frosted sliding glass door and two solid fire doors for the garage.  Jeff knew he was in competition and his price was about 10% below the competition.  Jeff even suggested a hurricane fabric to cover our front door which he was able to order and install for us at an excellent price.
When the installation day came, one of the windows was the wrong size and none of the three doors arrived.  Jeff's crew was professional and very nice.  It appeared that one of the workers was training the other which was fine.  They installed all the available windows and made sure we were happy before they left.  They noticed a flaw in one of the window frames and ordered a replacement part (we never would have noticed).  About a week later, the sliding glass door arrived along with one of the other two doors.  Still missing one window and one door.  These arrived two weeks later and were installed (good thing my wife works from home).
Despite the three day installation over a four week period, we are very happy with the final product.  Note - there is no such thing as a short meeting with Jeff, so make sure you allow plenty of time.  He is incredibly thorough and meticulous, which we appreciate, but maybe overly so if that is possible.
Overall, I highly recommend Practical Windows and Doors and would not hesitate to use them again.

Jeff (owner) measured & scheduled work to be done. Workers come on time &didn't bother me. I was confident enough to sit in the backyard while worker was in the house. No problems.
