Able Leak Detection/JR Simmons Pool Repair

J.R. Simmons must be one of the most knowledgeable professionals in pool service in Florida and most likely in the U.S. we called about our new navigator not moving. He came out within a day or so and expertly fixed that problem. He reprogrammed my pool pump and then serviced the filter which I had neglected. He came out one more time to discuss maintenance and patiently answered all of our questions. He went way beyond expectations. We will have him out at least annually. He is highly recommended without reservation for any pool questions and for high quality work.

Was running behind due to the bad weather, showed up with helper.  figured out problem within 10 minutes and then spent 30 minutes fixing the leak.  I was very satisfied with JR's knowledge and fast service.

overall disappointed.... i had hired him in the past for a leak in the pool vac. line where he cut out the concrete, and recalled that he did a good job......this time several things.....  he came mid april to temporarily patch a crack in the skimmer. we lost more water right away so he was prompt to come back ...the crack had extended, so more epoxy.... we were out of town april 15-30   it was my understanding that it would be finished when we got back....i asked him if i should hire someone to take care of the pool  ( i do the pool cleaning and chemicals myself ) he said he would take care of it even though it was not what he usually does... when i returned the pool deck was cut, and the skimmer lines capped off. the skimmer partly cut out.... the water level below the skimmers... the pool had a lot of debri on the bottom.. the pool vac line was operational, but the hose was disconnected.... i used a vac that attaches to the hose clean it, the pool chemistry ok.... i noticed that part of the 23 year old old skimmer was  still there , the 5x7 part that connects through to the  pool tile.  i did not feel comfortable with leaving the old part there..as afraid of future leaks.... he said that if he removed that part, it may crack some of the tiles.... i have some replacement tile that i brought out,  so if too many broke, i need to redo the market and waterline tile soon.... i called american leak detection,  for a second opinion....he said it is better to remove the whole thing,and replace the new skimmer in one piece, not two pieces.  so he only cracked or 3 tiles  came off  .. he said it was a lot of work to cut tiles, so he had reused the cracked tiles,.... so i asked him to replace new tiles.... finally 2 weeks later had it finished.... it would have been nice for him to clean the mortar off the bottom of the pool.   then when i went to replace the hose nozzel, there was mortar on the end of the hose, i had to clean off before i could get the hose nozzel to fit.... I appreciated him offering to  give me the autofill cap,in case i had to shut off the autofill in the future..

I needed a pump housing repair, so JR Simmons came out. He was right on time, responded on the phone whenever I called, and answered all my questions. I would recommend JR to anyone needing pool pump repairs or parts replacement. JR does not do pool service, that is the other part of the company.
He quickly determined the source of the leak and we discussed solutions. He offered me a very fair price to replace the pump along with the housing, which was shot. This included patching in some new pipe so everything would fit just right. Many months later, I am still pleased with the work and the pump continues to perform perfectly.
The more complex part of the job was figuring out how to unclog my main drain, which was clogged with leaves. It has multiple pipes, so not that easy to just reverse the flow. JR tried several different tactics before hitting on a solution. He patiently explained everything to me so I could understand how the system worked and at least make an effort to save money and unclog it myself. By giving me that info, he may cost himself $, but he is empowering me, the consumer and adding value to his work.
Explaining how things work and answering questions is very important to me, not only because I am curious and like to fix my own stuff, but it helps me evaluate what the repair person is doing. I hate being in the dark on work being done and having an impatient repairman who can't deal with customers that want to know how things work. JR was very patient and told me what I wanted to know, and what I needed to know. His visit was worth every penny.

I had a leak in on of the PVC fittings. There was no room between any of the fittings to redo the fittings. I had JR come out and redo the plumbing for that line.

Understandably, setting a schedule can be difficult in this profession so getting our schedules to coincide was difficult. Once he made it to our pool he very diligently sought out and sealed our pool. He explained the process throughout, and what our next options were.

I found JR Simmons by looking up Able Leak. Able did a similar repair back in 2008, 5 years ago. I called JR Simmons, because he absorbed Able's work and was given
high recommendations by Angies site.

JR arrived promptly, repaired the inground skimmer leak and all is well. He was efficient and patient and answered any questions that I had.

J.R. was terrific! Thank goodness my problem wasn't serious. My pressure gauge wasn't working, so he replaced that. He also replaced the O-rings in the filter and the pump. He adjusted the throttle plate in the skimmer. He gave me a lot of useful information that no one had provided me with (the pool was installed by the previous owners).

Mr. R. J. Simmons came out and broke down the filter container, and found the filters had some holes in them. He discussed all the options with me, including a detailed inspection of the filter tank, and we agreed to try just replacing the filter grid and nothing else. This resulted in the least costly solution. He could have recommended a replacement of the entire system, given it's age, but he gave me the benefit of his expertise to examine and assess the condition of the container itself, and the "yoke", which holds the filter grid in place. His opinion was that they were in good enough condition to not warrant their being replaced. He came back the next morning with the parts and installed everything... no leaks... back in business!Needless to say, I was very impressed and pleased that he gave me an honest assessment of what it would take to fix the problem without going the most expensive route. R. J. is very professional, experienced, and knowledgeable, and very pleasant to talk to and deal with. He's in charge of my pool from now on.

Showed up on time. Professional and experienced. Checked all equiptment and pool. Fixed problem in less than 2 hours.

They were very good. They were punctual and professional. I would use them again in the future.

They did a fine job. I had a discount because it was through Angie's List, it was originally $250. The job was very good, they found the leak right away. It did entail going in a pool with 50 degree water and pluging up a main drain leak. They came in and he had an apprentice with him that he was training. He had to get his dry suit on and actually go in. They found the leak with his detection stuff within 5 minutes of being at the pool. It was in the main drain so he had to get set up to go in the water which he did. He found it, cleaned it, plugged it and then tested it. They did marvelous, I couldn't have gotten in the pool with the water the temperature it is and find it the way he did. He had special equipment.

JR is my "go to" guy for pool problems!

They found a small leak that I was unable to find. A tiny crack. They patched it and this fixed my pool. It was worth the cost to fix! I would recommend them.

Great - this is the second time I used JR. Very prompt, responsive, and flexible.

Able Leak was recommended by another company who came out and repaired a leak in the skimmer box, but didn't do drain or pipe leaks. They have a flat fee of $225. It took two trips (no extra charge for the second trip), but they found all of the leaks and repaired them completely.

Waited one week for regular pool repair company to come out and service motor. Finally made some calls to people on the list and his name was mentioned. I called him and he came out the next day and did the repairs needed to get the pool up and running properly. Will not hesitate to call him again if a problem happens again.
