On Friday Oct 23 my wife called me at work stating our kitchen drain was clogged. After personally snaking the drain with very little success I called a plumbing company (BF Plumbing). On Saturday, The plumber tried in vain 2-3 times and after seeing dirt and sand, they said that it was a broken drain pipe under the house slab. The estimated the cost to repair to be about $ 5,000 (which included an option to bust/break my Travertine tile floor or external piping).
The same day (Saturday), I called a second plumbing company (RR) for a second opinion and estimate. The second plumber came in Monday morning and after listening to the story decided to produce an estimate to fix it without verifying the issue, the estimate was around $9,000.
Monday afternoon I called a third and a fourth plumbing company. The third one (M.E. Plumbing) never called me back and the fourth one, Rooter-Man send a plumber late Monday afternoon. This plumber (Chris) heard the story and decided to investigate further to find the real root or cause of the problem. He determined that the issue was not a broken drain pipe under my house, but a very persistent clog. He said to verify he would need a longer drain camera and drain jets, he provided an estimate on the cost to trouble shoot and fix of about $500 (five hundred). The next day they came back with a drain camera and drain jet system. They tried from all type of opening and even tried a drain bladder. After working continuously for a number of hours (Chris would not give up!), he was able to finally dislodge the obstruction and the bill was only $474 as opposed to $5,000! A 4,500+ savings and our kitchen drain is working much better than it has worked in years!
I would only use them on weekends when emergency.
We paid Mr. Rooter $7,500, but don't forget these are also necessary to have a complete, certified and working system.
1) The permit may take weeks and will cost around $350
2) The survey can run you between $75 and $150
3) Driveway repair if necessary can cost a lot and are not included (cost us around $2,300).
4) Sod is required to certify the project and is not included (cost us $1,200)
Overall the project will cost more than $10,000.
Don't belive the one free "Return Trip'- that cos me a bundle before I called the Count Water And Sewer.
In fact, I would advise you not to call them at all.

"We responded to an emergency call at this client’s home on the of evening of April 22, 2010. His entire house was clogged. All prices were agreed to in writing before any work began. Our technician was able to unstop his home and get him flowing freely. We returned in November of the same year and he was clogged again. His sewer main from the home to the city connection is approximately 160 feet long through dense trees and landscaping. We installed accessible cleanouts in the yard, bringing his home up to the required state and local codes, so we could gain access to the entire drainage system. Our technicians were able to determine with a fiber optic video camera that the drain line had multiple root intrusions and bellies preventing proper drainage of sewage. Because of his concern for his landscaping we made an offer to replace the entire drain line with a trenchless technology that would prevent damage or major excavation to his yard. We also offered less expensive options which included spot repairs and routine maintenance. When roots are present in a drain line it is an indication of a break in the drain line. This condition must be maintained, repaired or replaced, or the stoppages will continue to occur. He chose to work with another company."
"We responded to the member's plumbing concern April 26, 2009. He reported that his main sewer line was clogged. The first step was to cable the drain from the home to the septic tank to determine the area of concern. This service was performed at a price of $165 and paid for at the time of service. This allowed us to determine that the septic tank required pumping. We did not pump the septic tank for the member and our records do not indicate who he chose to perform that service."
