Finally got around to calling an electrician on Thursday. Jerry Pybus Elec was here on FRIDAY! For a little residential job! Aaron and crew showed up just when they said they would, and we walked them through the issue. They said we'd wired everything correctly, turned on the breaker, found current, reset the GFCI button in the master bath, and VOILA...power! Kind of like when you take your car to the mechanic because it is making that buzzing noise...only when you get it there, it doesn't make the noise anymore, you know?!
They explained, patiently, that any little thing can trip a GFCI (and we do have critters in these here parts of the South). Since we were already paying for an hour, we went ahead and had Aaron finish up tidying an outlet I was working on in the sunroom.
We got a lesson on why there was an outlet on one side of the house (sunroom) tied to an outlet in middle of the house (bathroom) to an outlet at the end of the house (bathroom). The sunroom was outside at one time, so it was like an automatic GFCI. All those outlets could potentially be exposed to water, so they...whatever. It was interesting.
Professional, punctual, knowledgeable. A+
For the three things indicated above - in my mind a one-hour job - they took 1-hour and 40-minutes - including 10-minutes with them waiting for a billing person to call them back with cost of various parts. The only parts that they added were electrical line in the attick to connect my ceiling fan. They charged me for a full two hours ($256) and with parts it totalled $284.00.
Everything worked well, my only complaint is having them round-up to charge for a full second hour with my paying for them to wait to get billing charges from their clerk. I wouldn't have kicked if they had charged me for 1-1/2 hours, but having to wait for those billing charges and then charging me for the wait time, just doesn't seem right.
It would have been an and quot;Aand quot; experience except for the price - which I thought was overcharging. Good guys, good work - but they will stick you on the bill.
UPDATE: After the plumbers left, the hot water did not work and the lights were flickering. The plumbers came back and confirmed it was an electrical problem. Pybus sent out two guys the very next morning, and they found that a very old fuse had blown (showed it to me-- all rusty, etc.). They didn't charge for the return call even though it had nothing to do with their previous work and only charged for the part. They were extremely professional and responsive, not to mention that they found the problem really quickly so they are very good. I loved working with Pybus and would DEFINITELY call them again for any electrical issues we might run into with our older home.
