Roy Amerson's Nursery

This is a recounting of a real-life
horror story. My husband was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and one of his
bucket list items was to landscape the front of the house before the end of his
days. We retired to our vacation home (canal homes) living
our dream and became permanent Floridians. An older neighbor recommended
Amerson Nurseries to landscape the yard. We went out to Amerson?s location on
Terra Ceia Road in Palmetto. My husband loved and trusted everyone and had a
good feeling about Roy Amerson. We chose and tagged some very large, mature
trees on their property. Their acres of land appeared to me as overgrown and
run down. We left a hefty monetary deposit expecting to get what we wanted. Much,
much, much later...a planting plan was drawn up with smaller plants/trees to
complete the look we wanted. There were specific items that we wanted that were
written into the contract. We wanted a good grade top soil to be added at the
time of planting. It was like pulling teeth to get a date to deliver the trees
and the top soil and have the top soil worked into the existing sand. MOST of
the trees arrived but NO top soil. Some of the tagged trees arrived but the
smaller plants to finish the landscaping were old, dry, small and very
sick-looking. Amerson did not have the proper equipment, manpower and trucks to
handle the promised items in the contract. Amerson workers told us on the side
that this happens all the time. Some of the trees on the list were not even on
the truck!!  It is appalling for my very mild-mannered
and very ill husband to be treated with such disrespect. No one should be put
through this experience. I will never forget the yelling and screaming that
occurred on the front lawn on the day the trees arrived!  Short of calling the sheriff, Amerson agreed
to sell us the healthier trees at his cost and planted the 4 trees and we took
some of the potted plants since they were on the truck. Besides fighting cancer
my husband unfortunately had to fight a nursery person with extremely poor
business practices.

COMPANY IS UNDERGOING CHANGES IN PERSONNEL. IT LOST ITS FRONTMAN- SALESMAN- AND HAS NEW FRONT OFFICE PERSONNEL. POOR COMMUNICATION AMONG DEPARTMENTS. INSTALLATION FOREMAN PROVIDED POOR CUSTOMER CARE. HE DID NOT RETURN CALLS FOR SERVICE WITHOUT A LOT OF INSISTENCE. OWNER GAVE MISLEADING INFORMATION ABOUT PRICES AND PLANTING ISSUES. HE CHARGED SEVEN CENTS LESS THAN HOME DEPOT FOR COMPARABLE PLANTS. AD CLAIM OF SAVING BY BUYING DIRECT FROM THE GROWER IS TRUE. I SAVED SEVEN CENTS PER PLANT! AD PROMISED TO PAY BRIDGE TOLL, BUT TOLL WAS NOT DEDUCTED FROM THE FINAL PRICE.
