GEORGE B.
Jul 2015
IWork was as specified. This is a small family business which also employs Angel's two sons, Carlos and Angel Jr. English is not their first language but they all speak it well enough. But one does need to take some extra effort around communication, particularly when talking over cell phones!
Took a week longer than agreed because Angel Sr had to return home to Honduras for a family emergency and so his team fell behind schedule on jobs ahead of mine. However, they did there best to complete in a timely manner, working to 10 PM one night on an other project so they could get back to mine the next day, and working past 10 PM the next night, skipping dinner to finish my job, including cleaning up. I understand schedule delays are inevitable with a small crew and multiple jobs and unanticipated field conditions. The work went slower than I (and probably they) anticipated, at least in
part because the wire lath and plaster bathroom ceilings were hard to cut into and the bedroom ceilings are a weird combination of stucco, acoustic fiber panels and cement that were hard to secure to. They did a good job of keeping me updated on schedule changes.
Best pricing of multiple bids for this project. Two (Bryans and Snowden) would have been around $2,000 including the 30 amp circuit, one was about the same (Doherty) but he backed out, one did not submit a bid after looking at the problematic conditions in my circa 1957 condo.
There was a problem with my washer / dryer 30 amp circuit which would require running a new line from my circuit panel across my kitchen to the bedroom area. Typically, none of the bidders were interested in doing anything but running the new line across the underside of my kitchen / dining area ceiling, which would have looked like h*** but saved them a lot of time and aggravation. Angel pulled the new line through existing (but crowded) conduit even though it was a big time consuming effort. For that alone I was sold on them.
The electrical work itself was flawless. I was a little disappointed in the size of the holes they made to install the fan / lights, resulting in a extra effort for me to patch afterwards. They could have done a better job protecting areas from all the falling stucco and lath from all the holes they had to cut. But they did clean up at the end of each day. And quite frankly, the existing carpet is so old it doesn't warrant a lot of effort to cover.
