The demolition crew showed up Tuesday morning with no notice at all. I had provided possible dates, but asked to be contacted well in advance because I work from home. I told them I would only be willing to rearrange my schedule if I had assurance the products were in hand and the job would be finished the following day. I called and was told just that so I allowed the tear-out. A few hours later, I got a call from RCI saying they were having problems on another job and would need to postpone. I told them that was not acceptable (since my flooring was already gone) and that they would need to rearrange. I got a call back a few hours later saying that the installers would be here at 1:00. Nobody showed, so I called again. This time they said they were waiting for the truck with the materials - which I was told were already there. It was 4:00 pm before they even started the job and then it was left unfinished. Then they showed me the quarter round. The colors were completely wrong. Chris finally arrived and insisted that I approved a dark pine and bright white (when my baseboards are a light pickled oak and my cabinets are cream). We had no choice but to match the flooring instead, which looks a little silly, but better than the alternative. They installed the quarter round before I figured out that it is not even wood. The floor also had pretty big gaps between the planks - a problem in a kitchen. All in all, it was a bad experience. We paid them, but will never use them or recommend them in the future. I do not know how they have an A rating on this list. If you choose to try them, check the materials in person before allowing tear-out.
P.S. A couple days after they installed the flooring, we discovered that there were hollow areas throughout the floor. They had to return to drill holes and pump glue into over 30 areas. In addition, they broke one of the flooring strips and patched it rather than replaced it during the installation. We are extremely unhappy.
From the moment I walked through the door of the showroom, I was impressed with RCI. Anne promptly greeted me and asked what type of product I was looking for. Even though I pretty much had my mind made up that I wanted hardwood flooring, she suggested other alternatives that would work with my tastes and budget.
When I decide to have the carpeting in the rest of the house replaced with hardwood, I will definitely contact RCI again. Their work
ethic and product quality is top notch.
