The problem was water damage to an enjoining wall next to the shower in a home that is almost 20 years old. Because of the age of the house I was worried that there could be significant unseen damage behind the walls driving the cost of repairs up.
I searched Angie's list and found Ron Wilfeard of RL Wilfeard Carpentry. I cross checked him with a local business directory and found he was highly endorsed on both websites, very strong reviews of his work.
I called and scheduled an appointment. He arrived at the agreed upon time. He looked at the damage to the wall and listened to my thoughts and observations and then gave me his assessment of what he thought was going on. He sketched out a plan of attack and also gave me an idea of what else may be needed if the problem behind the walls turned out to be worse than he suspected.
Part of the solution involved laying tile to replace drywall that had been covered in irreplaceable wallpaper. Ron asked for a second appointment to bring out a tile guy he uses. Again Ron and the tile man, Eddie pulled up right on time. They conferred briefly and left. Ron would next draw up his estimate and would email it to me, which he did. The estimate was extremely reasonable, considerably lower than my wife had braced ourselves for.
A third appointment was made at my convenience for Ron to drop by with a contract for me to sign. Again he arrived at exactly the time he said he would.
The job was estimated to take three days to complete, it was finished in two. The finished product surpassed my expectations. My wife was very concerned with how it would all look; replacing sections of a wallpapered wall with tile and she couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out, it looked better than before.
What I think anyone would appreciate when looking for a contractor is that Ron Wilfeard does exactly what he says he will do, arrives to perform the work right on time, and does his best to explain all the problems that may arise and what he would do to take care of that issue.
If another project arises my first call will be to Ron.
