Mr. Sweeper

Any references to Mr. Chimney should have been Mr. Sweeper. Mr. Sweeper was very pleasant to deal with. The lady on the phone (Mrs. Sweeper?), not so much. The photos on their website of jobs they’ve done show chimney caps with overhang, which reduces chances of water intrusion. The one they installed on my chimney had no overhang. Just a basic cylinder with a top and square holes around the side.

My heavy duty galvanized steel chimney cap was rusting and replaced with a very thin gauged stainless steel cap. The original spark arrester was replaced with a stainless arrester that simply had some holes around it with no overhanging top to protect from rain blowing in. I know that in a storm some water will get in even with a well designed system but this was so basic, the slightest drizzle with no wind had rain dripping in. Many months after installation, we noticed the chimney leaking and had been leaking for some time as the fire grate was totally rusted, which it never had been before. So we called them and they came out and found that the cap was bowed in due to occasional large birds sitting on it. Mr. Chimney caulked around the arrester but couldn’t reach all of it. Several days later we had the lightest of drizzles with no wind and the chimney leaked directly down the center, through the flue. When I called them up the woman became argumentative, telling me there was nothing wrong with the chimney cap and I need to call my roofer. I tried to explain that the water was coming in the chimney within the flue; likely through the area that was not caulked. It was apparent I wasn’t going to get anywhere so I hung up. In a nutshell, I feel they sell an inferior product and aren’t standing behind it.

Extremely dishonest company. While this company performed the chimney sweep as requested to a good standard, the company practices extremely dishonest pricing policies. Before our cleaning began we were informed that the job was a large job and would take some time to clean. Based off this initial information we received, we expected the job to take hours. When the cleaning actually began, our chimney sweep took a little under two hours to complete, coming at a grand total of $650. We were shocked as we thought the job was going to be much bigger then a two hour job, and were very disappointed when Mr. Sweeper company said that we had to pay the $650 even though the job only took less than two hours. We have never experienced a chimney sweep at such a crazy rate of over $300 an hour. Please beware of this company as they will rip you off.

Called Mr. Sweeper and was able to get an appointment pretty quickly. 3 days later, Jose showed up 15 minutes early and took me up on the roof to show me what happened to my chimney cap. He had one on his truck and the price with labor was fair. He also took the time to do a good inspection of the chimney for me and walk me through getting a fire going. This is a new home purchase for us and I wanted to get a professional look at the chimney. Great work and will use them in the future.

They come in and either clean your chimney from the exterior. I have a cover over mine so he had to clean it from the inside. It is a one man deal. He works for himself. His wife handles the paperwork. It was a couple of hours. He was early. He says he likes to makes the appoi in the morning. In the afternoon, it rains or is too hot. He got here at 8:30. He puts down covers on everything. Goes about his business and I left him alone. He cleaned out the fireplace and then the chimney to make sure there is no build up and that it was safe. The price seemed reasonable. He called me right back and we scheduled the appointment right then.

Very professional. Free estimate. Communicated every step of the job. Early for appointment.  Looked at fireplace inside to see if it needed sweeping before leaving. It did not at this time. Very happy with workmanship of installed chase and cap. Would hire again to sweep chimney when needed.

Worked out perfectly. Primary issue was lint buildup over time at roof vent.

Jose was very professional and flexible to work around my schedule. He came the 1st time and took measurement and order the part. Two weeks later came an instaled the cap.

Excellent in all aspects.  Most importantly, when we called him again several months later and he arrived we asked him if he was ill or if he had recently been around anyone who was ill because a member of our family was taking a medication that increased susceptibility to infections. He told us he was getting over a cold and would prefer to re-schedule because he did not want to risk any problem for our family member.  What a nice considerate man!  Hard to find service people like him nowadays.  He is also a chimney sweep.

Well ,Mr. Sweeper saved me again.  My dryer had stopped working and I purchased a new one.  Lowes came to install the dryer but would not due to the large amount of lint in the vent.  It would have been a liability for them.  I called Mr. sweeper and scheduled an appointment a few days later.  Mr. Sweeper was prompt, professional, cleaned up after himself, went up on the roof to make sure the outlet was clear.
This is the 2nd time I have used Mr. Sweeper.  So, when I had this current problem I looked him up and called right away.  He is a one man operation.  Such a nice man with the work ethic one does not often see now a days.  I would definetly recommend him to others!  Great job Mr. Sweeper!
