Deceitful and incompetent. Take your pick. The facts: Christian Ott, manager of Heart Roofing provided his price to replace our roof. We agreed. As agreed, he picked up his first check ($9,250) upon the delivery of all materials. After tearing off most of our old roof, he calls my wife and informs her that he missed replacing a “boot and need to re-stuccoing our chimney.” We would have to pay an additional $650. My wife refused payment, Christian called back about 30 minutes later stating this was his mistake and that he would complete the needed work at his expense. When the roofing was nearing completion, Christian called my wife again telling her he was not painting the stucco on the chimney. My wife misunderstood what he was saying and thought he was telling her we would have to pay the previously described $650. At this point, she turns to me to speak with Christian. When I got on the phone asking for some explanation Christian was “extremely” rude and even went so far as to threaten me with them doing nothing more at all and I could just deal with this myself. After some back and forth I realized what he was refusing was only the painting, not the boot or stucco. Hence, I agreed for him to proceed with his part, and I would get the painting done. The following is the result: On July 17th, an Employee from Heart Roofing shows up at our door. He said, “Everything is complete and that Christian got the final roof inspection earlier today.” He asks for the final check ($9,250). Not expecting a total lie, my wife gave him the check. (Note: The work had not been completed. We are not able to climb up on the roof and would not know what to look for if we were. Christian knows that. I am 77 years old.) Christian sent an employee with this BS story of the inspection being done and all the work completed to collect the final check. July 18th, two men we had never seen before show up to look at the chimney. (We thought the work was done). July 19th, the roof inspector shows up to do the final inspection. Of course, at this point, we realize we had been lied to about the final inspection The two guys that came to “look” at the chimney never came back. The inspector told us to get the roofing company back out there to finish the chimney or we were going to have a roof leak. He said he would approve the inspection so we would not have to re-schedule another inspection. We started calling Christian! July 19th and 20th, my wife calls Christian three times. Christian does not answer his calls and does not return calls. She texted him twice. No reply. July 21st, I called. Apparently, he did not recognize the caller ID. He answered. I asked if we could just put the swords down and get this job finished. I offered to split the cost. His reply was he would call me back. July 22nd, I called again, and of course, no answer. I left a message. No response. July 23rd, I hired a roofing company to complete the job. That is the boot, stucco, and painting ($700).
