We wanted our new home in Nocatee inspected and I contacted Harry Gillean based on the other Angie's List reviews. This is a father and son team with Harry based out of Palatka and son, Clay, based out of Mandarin. Harry worked with our builder to ensure a copy of his company license was on file, and Clay did the inspection. Clay told me he would start at 9am and that my husband and I should arrive at 11am so he could review his findings with us. Our builder was supposed to have the house open for him. Clay arrived at 9am, but the builder didn't come open up the house until 9:30. Clay called me twice while waiting, but I didn't get the voice mails until later due to poor reception in Nocatee. Luckily, Clay waited at the house. He had been up in the attic and thoroughly around the house by the time we arrived at 11am. My husband had caught a number of items already, but Clay found more. Lucky for us, Clay said the builder generally did a very good job, but he did point out a number of items that, although they should be easy fixes for our builder, might have been trouble for us down the line if not addressed. Clay also gave us a number of recommendations on how to maintain a number of the items throughout the house and he answered a number of questions that we had. Clay emailed us a report later that day which covered all the issues and recommendations. There were photos of the items that will make it easy for our builder to locate the trouble spots. We plan on hiring him again when we have our end-of-year inspection. We are new to the Jacksonville area, so thank you Angie's List and those who wrote reviews about this team. We highly recommend them.

Very thorough inspection. For a small house we were there 6 hours and he explained everything to me. Also how to fix things, what would be costly and what was a quick fix. On top of this he took pictures of everything and then wrote out a very detailed report on the home highlighting everything small or large even though he had already told me about it. Great service well and price well worth it!

It went very well. He was thorough and gave good home inspection advice. He explained the whole process a lot better. He gave recommendations of things we could do. I would very much recommend him. I liked his honesty. He didn’t do additional things. He was very straightforward. The price was good.

I received Clay's contact information (he is located in Mandarin) as a referral for new home construction inspection services. Most people wouldn't think to hire an independent inspector for new construction because the county sends someone at different intervals to ensure your home is being built according to code. Hiring Clay was one of the smartest investments I could have made!! He was VERY thorough! He spent several hours at my house during each stage of the process and found issues during all three inspections that were not addressed by the county inspector. If I didn't hire Clay, these items would have gone undetected and definitely would not have been repaired. I initially called him at 386-937-0224 to obtain a quote and he actually answered the phone the first time I tried to reach him. I explained my situation (provided sq footage, etc) and he quoted me several options for the different types of inspections he offers (did I mention that Clay has built homes himself so he is very educated / experienced in this field). We agreed on a framing inspection as the first step. He stayed in touch with me as we progressed toward the date of inspection ensuring we had all of our bases covered. I received the detailed report with pictures (within a day or two of his inspection) and he called me to go over everything he found, putting it in layman's terms so I could understand it. He also spoke with my foreman (allowing me to avoid being the "middle man") to ensure the necessary repairs were completed in a timely manner. Every time I had a question, Clay was available. He never once made me feel like I was bothering him. He was always very courteous and professional! The same process ensued with the insulation inspection and the final walk-through. We just closed on our house the other day and Clay was in the neighborhood so he stopped by to say hello and make sure everything was going well. We have plans to contact Clay again when we hit the 11 month mark in the new home so he can help us with our 1 year warranty inspection. I would highly recommend Clay to anyone looking for a professional home inspector!

This is our second home we've bought and had a home inspection done on. On our first home, the inspector was in and out in about an hour. However, Clay from Harry Gillean Inc ran a detailed, 3hr inspection on the full home. He spent time point out even the smallest issues with the home from the driveway all the way to the ducts in the attic (mid July and the attic was boiling hot). The very next day we received a full report from him via email which was very detailed and included great pictures. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the service rendered.

Clay met me at the house he was on-time and very thorough in his inspection. He welcomed all questions and answered them and gave explanations on how/why he came up with the answer. I feel he is very knowledgeable in his field.
