James was the first company to come out to give a bid. He made a few suggestions for the project. and expressed some of his ideas. We talked about the Robellini that was partially damaged from the cold Winter, but it was coming back. I asked if there was anyway he could save one of the two trunks. He stated that the whole thing would have to go, he couldn?t save it. He was going to put a Palm in it?s place. He came very early in the next morning and put in the tree and plants and completed the job. When I came out of the house, he had already torn out the Robellini and put a very big palm in it?s place. I felt it was too big and overpowering. He refused to do anything about it. In addition, I later found out that our Homeowner's Assoc. does not permit a Queen Palm tree that close to the house because of its size.. He also tore out a few plants I didn?t want removed and they were piled in his truck. He was able to give them back to me. It wasn't until a week later when I realize he removed our Bougainvillea tree that was my pride and joy. The reason for this late discovery, is because we always drive in and out of the house via the garage and this area is not readily visible. James insisted we had discussed the Bougainvillea during his first visit. I did mention this tree, but only in the context that it suffered some winter damage but was "coming back" and in fact, it had some flowers. At no time did I ever give him permission to cut this tree down as it is my favorite. I told him I was very dissatisfied and I wanted him to replace this tree with another one and he blatantly refused. Not only did he absolutely REFUSE to replace my bougainvillea but he was downright rude. He said I should have realized it before and it was too late. Furthermore, he NEVER gave us a written estimate for the $500 price he quoted. Had he done this, we would have had the opportunity to review what he was going to do. When I asked him why we did NOT get a written estimate, he told me that he does not give written estimates for $500.00 of work and if I had requested an estimate, it would have cost me an additional an (I can't remember) $50 or $100.. This guy is very young, still in school (I think college) and although a hard worker with lots of potential, he is very aggressive and belligerant. He has a lot to learn when it comes to conducting business and customer satisfaction. I called him several times to give him the opportunity to make good but he refused. During my last telephone conversation with him, I told him I was going to report him to the Better Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce and he became very sarcastic, and offered to give me the their telephone numbers.
