A & R Landscaping & Lighting Inc

About us

We love a challenge. Most people consider landscaping planting trees and shrubs in the ground, but we take it to a higher level. We will have you thinking about creating an outdoor room with a pergola/arbor overhead and a stone or brick patio to set the outdoor couch on. We will design a custom fire pit with a curved stone wall to sit on which also acts as a retaining wall for the custom fountain that sits behind it. We won’t forget about the front of the house because with our awesome weather in the greater Orlando Florida area, we love to custom design those outdoor spaces for you. We will even provide landscape lighting so after those long work days you will still be able to go outside and enjoy your newly renovated custom landscaping and maybe even install a spa to help out.

Andy and A&R landscaping did a back yard remodel project for us. When we met for the first time, he made sure to listen to our needs and how we wanted to use the space. He made note of our budget, but was sure to tell us that his goal was to create a vision for the space and then we would work together to meet the budget. Sure enough, he came back with a great vision… a truly revolutionary idea for the space. Yes, it was over our budget, but as he promised, he showed us the possibility and was fully committed to working with us to do what we could do within our budget. We met in a good place and signed the contract. His primary team of workers have all been with him for a long time, it is truly a family type of business. He does use contractors for special needs (electric, etc), but all of those contractors have been with him a long time as well. Each of his team was simply great. They were kind, considerate, addressed our every concern and made simple adjustments on the fly as we looked at the progress. They cleaned the area every day… while it was obviously under construction, they left everything outside the fence incredibly clean and tidy. Even my neighbors noted how pleasant and courteous the team was. Since the original installation, we have had a few problems with faulty irrigation parts. Andy and his team have been quick to respond and fixed to our satisfaction. The end result was a transformed back yard living area. We did not do everything in the vision that Andy provided, but we got the majority of it and always have the infrastructure to do more. We will definitely use A&R for our pending front yard remodel. Simply stated… Andy thrives on creating great living spaces and beautiful landscaping, he understands how to work within the customers means, and his team goes above and beyond to deliver in the way you would want someone working on your home. I cannot give a higher recommendation for A&R Landscaping.

It has taken me a while to write this review but I needed time to digest all that went thru. We contracted this company initially to complete a massive renovation of our landscape which included all the areas mentioned. The pavers work was done beautiful and we are very happy with the end result. At his advice, we added a transformer for lights to add some dimension to a retaining wall behind the fire pit in the brick patio. About 3 weeks after the job was completed, we discovered the cable from the transformer to the retaining wall was completely exposed. They never buried it and was just covered with mulch. Obviously, after a good rain, the cable showed. So thankful, it was not destroyed while cutting the lawn. Otherwise, it was money in the trash. After multiple calls, someone came and fixed the problem. For the flower bed areas, the work required to remove river rock stones, and at Andy's advice, it was replaced with sod and mulch. During the process, the brought sod - don't know from where - but it introduced crab grass everywhere in my garden beds - impossible to control. Within 2 weeks after job was done, I called and he send someone to spray weed killer. That really didn't solve the problem obviously. Upon asking why the industrial grade plastic was not installed, he felt his expertize was attacked and I decided never to contact him again. Upon leaving the job, the work was not complete (areas needed St. Augustine grass because they ran out of it, same for the mulch). Now over a year later, we have to bring another landscaper to fix all our flower bed. None of my neighbors, even the one next to our home has the crab grass issue we have. About 25% of the plants recommended and planted by this company died (they were too young), the ornamental grass grew out of control (not the best plants to plant under palm trees.) So are now, a year later, we are hiring another contractor to fix all the plant bed areas this crew did (Over $4K more) My advice, if the work that you want to be done is pavers patios, he is the Go-To person. If for landscaping, do more research before hiring him to do the job. For some plants we were charged over $40 for a 1 gallon to them finding the same plant as a reputable nursery for a fraction of it ($10).

"Dear [Member Name Removed], This is not the experience we had with you back in January of 2017 when we installed your project. I can feel your frustration regarding the preexisting Torpedo grass. As discussed with you, torpedo grass is a hard weed to eradicate, especially since it was prevalent in your lawn before our project began. Unfortunately this is not a design issue but a maintenance issue as stated at the beginning pf your project. I hope you're still enjoying the patio spaces which was 85% of your project."

Big job. Very professional. Listen to what I wanted and provided a detailed drawing with exact number and types of plants. They were the only company which provided a drawing and detail. Showed up as scheduled and on-time every day (about a 5 day job). Left everyday with job site clean and crew is respectful and professional. Price wasn't cheap but the quality of work was great.... you get what you pay for. They made sure it was to my liking at the end of the job as well. I would recommend.

The whole experience with Andy and his crew was a joy! Andy created a great design for the front of our home, and his crew made that design come to life. The crew that came out got right to work, finished in about six hours, and cleaned up after themselves. They were a great group of guys. I've had many compliments on the work, and will be calling Andy again soon, this time for lighting up that beautiful landscaping that he created!

Went great. Crew arrived around 10:30 AM, cleared new beds, placed & planted low maintenance shrubs, added mulch, even around other tree's and beds.
Repaired irrigation system, replaced controller, and including running new control line to one of the zones.
All done and cleaned up by 3:00 PM.
Great job, very professional crew.

Andy was pretty booked when we first contacted him but we got an appointment for him to come out to the house and assess the situation.  In about a week after the consultation he presented a detailed design that was a bit out of our price range, so we simplified the design and created a plan to be submitted to the HOA for approval.  HOA approval took almost a month but once approved Andy and his crew scheduled completion of our project within a week.  They arrived on time and competed all of the work in one day.  The crew was professional, polite and had excellent attention to detail.  The yard looks great and the sprinklers are now adjusted to keep everything looking good without having to call out a separate sprinkler firm.  We are very happy with A & R Landscaping and Lighting and would use them again.

The only negative I have to mention is that they are busy and it is hard to get on their schedule, but be diligent and the end result will be worth it!

left alot of cracks unfilled with sand and one very large chipped paver was installed within the patio which looks awful and NEEDS to be replaced ASAP.  Lots of concrete and dust left behind for me to clean up.

There was one crew that did the walkway, and a different crew that did the landscape. They were both very good. It was all fine. It was all part of the same job. I would definitely recommend them. The owner was very professional. I appreciated the fact that he gave me a detailed professional drawing to scale what he was going to plant and labeled all the planting so I could look them up if I was not familiar with them and see what they were. He gave me low maintenance but colorful plantings. He did not himself do the job, but he came over several times to check on his crew.

I was very pleased with both jobs that they did. I had called them earlier but we had a lot of rain and so he was backed up for a while. It was somewhat later when he came but that was fine with me. It was not an emergency, I was not in a hurry. I paid $2500 for everything, and that included the plants. I haven't had any trouble. I have a large oak tree at the front of my house which had been a problem with previous walkways that I had. The roots of the tree would uplift the other walkways but so far there has been no sign of that with the new walkway. It's very easy to walk on. None of my guests have complained of it being uneven or anything like that. I thought the price was reasonable. I had gotten 3 other estimates and I thought his was fair. He drew up a plan and sent it to me so I could see exactly what he had proposed and what plants he was planning to use, and I was satisfied with all of it.

Installed outdoor lights and put in 24 volt transformers. Now I learn nobody uses 24 volt only 12 volt.
All my globes melted! lights constantly burned out. Every time I would call for help Andy would send out a family helper that did bandaid work.
The lights and fixtures he recommended and I used were lifetime warranty but I was left with trying to deal direct with the company.
I am in Florida the company is in Ca. Fuses are constantly blown.
Truthfully one of the worst experiences I have ever had.

Response from A & R Landscaping & Lighting Inc
"Hey [member name removed], I find this review of our company and work that we completed at your home confusing. I have documented in your file us coming to your home 6 times after our installation to cover issues. The first time lights had blown due to a lightning strike. We replaced bulbs at no charge to you. The next time there where light bulbs out and some of the fixture globes had melted due to someone else replacing bulbs with 12volt bulbs, your system is a 24volt system. We still replaced the globes and bulbs at no charge to you. The only time that we charged you was after your year warranty was up. Our warranty never covered bulbs but we still replaced them at no charge to you. The Unique brand lighting system that is installed at your home is a high quality system. They still have a very good warranty and when we do have issues the cover them. We have installed hundreds of their 24volt systems and have great results. At the time we installed your project it was the best and most efficient system available. As technology advance so do we. We now install LED systems. We are able to retro fit existing systems with 'drop in' LEDs. The 24volt bulbs are available in a few stores close to your home. Florida Irrigation Supply and Light Bulbs Unlimited should be able to help. I have not heard from you in over a year and a half. If you would like to hear how your system can be retro fitted to LED please contact us."

Discovering Andy's company is like discovering one of the best kept secret restaurants in town. It is excellent quality and you still get personalized outstanding service. Andy met with me and we discussed a vision for the backyard. My backyard is odd and very hilly, and he had the knowledge and experience to tackle all of its problems. He drew up some designs and we discussed implementing them in a phased approach. He is the only contractor willing to discuss and even plan for a multi-year phased approach.
When his crew arrived, they were just as he promised. Hard working guys, and all permanent employees who have worked for Andy a long time. Every worker did an extra step - like one worker fixed my daughters bike chain even though he was putting away his tools at the end of a very long day. They took care of details I didn't even know about - and with the trust that was built, it made for a very pleasant project.
Regarding the reviews that mention Andy is hard to get a hold of - I didn't have this experience. I found he was easy to reach and he was responsive. I know that he gives his workers a week or so off for the winter holidays and also, he is the sole designer, estimator, and project manager for the business. If I did find Andy was busy, or couldn't answer my immediate question, he always called back right away. If you find yourself waiting to get a hold of him - consider it well worth the wait. I prefer to work with the owner of a company, especially because it is his talent and passion that keeps the company in business. Working with Andy, I get the advantage of that level of landscape architecture talent and experience and I appreciate not having to deal with a sales guy.
I am so happy with my backyard (Phase 1) and I plan to use this company again and again in the future as our backyard is transformed.

this job is being done in stages. The first stage was sod and multiple plantings. The crew showed up at the time they had said they would be here. They were very knowledgeable and handled multiple problems that occurred with the sprinkler system as they were working on the sod. I am looking forward to the next phase of this project with this contractor.

Overall it went very welland hellip;however I have been having with an ongoing leak underneath the driveway. It looks as if there is a permanent wet spot. I've also been having an issue with having them come back to fix the leak. This has been ongoing the past 6 months but he claims he can't find the leak I will say he is a knowledgeable guy and overall good to work with, however I do wish the problem will be solved soon.

I found A and R easy to work with. We wanted to re-do the patio area and they made it quick and easy.
Our very small back patio needed a facelift and a privacy fence installed. This company knows Florida and so the patio will now drain properly when it during downpours and the landscaping (plants) they installed are perfect for the area.
This is the first company I have worked with in many years that did what they said they would do and the results were exactly what I wanted.
I would definitely recommend them.
