I understood from the condo by-laws that I was allowed to install hurricane shutters if I abided by there specifications. I went to the manager for more info and was told I could only use Weather Guard Inc. Thought that was odd, however called and met with Doug Thomas with Weather Guard for an estimate January 22, 2013. He was rude, arrogant and tried to ?strong-arm? me. During his visit he did explain the product, and installation. He held estimate to show cost ($6825. plus permit), then stated he would reduce by $700. to match another installation in my complex a few months earlier. He flashed a document quickly trying to prove the alleged installation, but I never saw it. Furthermore, I had to agree on the spot, and believe pay a deposit or price would go up tomorrow. I decided to research more and get other estimates; finding a complaint against his company on the BBB site in August 2011 and unable to find any recent installations by Weather Guard in my complex. Further research, including the Florida Statutes, which reiterates the fact that I should be able to choose my own vender and submit to condo association for approval.

par 5b. (5)Each board of administration shall adopt hurricane
shutter specifications for each building within each condominium operated by
the association which shall include color, style, and other factors deemed
relevant by the board. All specifications adopted by the board must comply with
the applicable building code.
To date I have 3 estimates from reputable companies. Eddy Storm Protection on February 01, 2013 for $6404. Custom Storm Shutters on June 4, 2014 for $5975. Atlantic Coast Hurricane Shutters on June 10, 2014 for $4960. plus permit. All were very professional and did not require a deposit until I received approval from condo. Weather Guard?s original estimate was for $6825. plus permit. I believe permit is $150. to $200.
I submitted my first application for shutter installation in April 2013, but unfortunately the condo manager continues to reiterate I must use Weather Guard, continues to stall approving my request and I believe chasing away other companies. The
shutter specifications from condo manager are outdated and out of code. Not sure what the connection is with condo
manager and Weather Guard, but know I will never use them.
