We have had a horrible experience when dealing with this company . During the very first month of our new roof, it leaked in 2 different spots. Over the next two years, several repair attempts were made but the roof is still leaking . The CEO has been to the site, the VP has been to the site, yet nothing changes and I still have a leaky roof . Run away! They do not honor their own warranty and we plan to reach out to our insurance company to notify them about Our bad experience with this company.

*After coming to give the estimate and saying they would get back with me with the total, they never did, although they kept calling wanting to come back to give me an estimate again. *After the contract was signed, a 2 week lead time turned into over 2 months. *PRICE GOUGED on a signed contract because of Hurricane Irma!!! The contract was signed BEFORE the hurricane, but after the hurricane they wouldn't do the work for the contract price, claiming "they made a mistake on the contract". I was given an ultimatum, pay $1600 more or they wouldn't do the work. (My insurance company says they overcharged by $2300. I believe it was really more than that because I had to step down to a lower grade shingle to keep the price around the contract price.) *I had a small warranty claim from the previous roof, the value which was $2100 wholesale. They only would give me $1600 credit, although I'm sure they were reimbursed the full amount. *The owner Ken Mallick, apparently didn't care about my business (after the dough started to roll in from Hurricane Irma jobs), sighting he made $21 million in 2016 when I mentioned getting another roofer and he'd "never heard of Russ Noyes Roofing [the other roofing company I sighted] and they are probably a fly by night company! I made $21 million last year! He probably isn't even a qualified roofer!" Ken said. ( Incidentally, Russ Noyes Roofing is highly rated, and Ken didn't know what he was talking about. I should have hired him). *I was told all roofers would speak English and be legally allowed to work in The U.S., but only the supervisor, who wasn't always on site did. I believe they were all undocumented "illegal" workers. They did good work though, but so would legal workers! *The quality of the roof cap seems to be poor and I was told there would be a fiber filter underneath to prevent bugs and dirt from getting inside the attic, but it wasn't done. Unfortunately, I didn't catch it until the roof was done. *Aside from the owners price gouging, customer service was very good. The office people were very good, as was the on site supervisor. Kudo's to Eli, Meriah, Meghan, and the site supervisor whose name I don't recall. Even Ken Mallick was good overall until the hurricane hit. After that his customer service went to ****.

Salesman made it to the appointment on time which was a plus, however, after spending over an hour with him I was left without any numbers. I was told I would have an estimate the following week, and still haven't seen/heard anything from them. It has been two weeks going on three. I guess they have enough business to not have to worry about mine.

I was very, very satisfied with it. They made a lot of suggestions that I hadn't thought of that would enhance my kitchen. They were the only company, and I had quite a few estimates. They were the only company that would let me bring in a tile from another placed. I found that most of the contract companies that gave me estimates used certain places for their tile. They brought their tile in at whatever price they were going to charge. Universal allowed me to go elsewhere. I found my tile before I had found anything else. They guaranteed their work on it; they didn't guarantee the quality of the tile. They guaranteed their work instead of being locked in at where they wanted me to go.

Universal Roofing returned our call quickly and came out to give us an estimate after having a skylight leak.  They found we were in need of a new roof due to a heavy wind storm which our Homeowner's Policy representative agreed.  Universal Roofing did a fabulous job and completed the entire roof in one day, including skylights.  Very hard working staff and friendly office personnel.  This is also a family owned business.

They were horrible. I had to sue them in order to get them to remove the lien from my house for checks that they had in their possession.  I spent $5000 on legal fees.

Gentleman arrived 30 minutes late on a Thursday ,took 20 minutes worth of estimates, said he would contact me the following day or latest Monday, we are going on a week later and still no response. I contacted the office and spoke with a lady that informed me that they are busy patching holes and they will get to me when they can. When I mentioned that I was just merely following up on what their estimator told me, she told me they have plenty of roofs to fix and hung up. I was excited to use them as they were very highly rated on google, but I guess it's safe to say that every experience is different. Compared to other roofers such as don Schmidt or even Lundberg's, these guys need to step up their customer service.

The estimator, Heather (the owner's daughter), did not show up even though we booked a month in advance and the office called to confirm the day before. We called the office at 30 minutes past the appointment time and they said they could not reach her by phone. We called again at 90 minutes past and they told us the same thing. I took time off from work to meet her and there was no follow up call from her to apologize or explain why she didn't show up. The office confirmed that they had our phone number and didn't know why she was a "no show". Then they had the audacity to make a solicitation call that afternoon to introduce us to their Anderson windows.

Would the Mellick family like to right this wrong? I'm a single mom, literally trying to keep the roof on over my head. Universal got a lot of business in our neighborhood (and I see they're throwing a community party this weekend at Red Bug Lake Park...a "thanks for lining our pockets" party?). How about extending some of that community goodwill and replacing my roof at cost for the hardship?

Really great job from first initial call, the estimate process was fantastic.  Everything was great all the way through to completion.
After the job was done, I asked them to come back a couple of times because I kept finding roofing nails around the foundation of the house.  They came without complaint and honestly I couldn't have hoped for a better experience re-roofing my house.

They did a good job. It has not leaked since. I had to call to make sure they were going to come, but they did come and did the job well and effectively and efficiently, they were just a little bit late.

I called to schedule for a re-roof estimate. Ken came out and was on-time, courteous, and what we considered to be informative. After introductions he proceeded to get up on the roof. After about 5 minutes up there, he told us that we had wind damage and that our homeowner's insurance would pay for a new roof. He told us exactly which storm and year of the storm to give to the insurance company and said that they would deal directly with the adjusters. The first adjuster came out and confirmed wind damage. We thought, "Great, we can save the re-roof expense for other things." But apparently the insurance company wasn't satisfied. They shorty thereafter sent out an engineer to do an in-depth analysis. The resulting report was that less than 1% of the entire roof's shingles had wind damage and that is all that they would replace and the cost would be less than the deductible. So much for that idea.
Now, the problem that I have with Universal Roofing Contractors is not that they attempted to have our insurance company pay for the re-roof (that would have been just fine). The problem I have is that after the insurance company informed us that they would not pay for the entire roof, Ken and Universal just sort of disappeared. We never heard back from Ken or anyone there. We made the initial call for the estimate (which we never received). I don't feel like I should have to track them down after the fact. Now I wonder if  Universal has a reputation with the insurance companies for having homeowners file unsubstantiated claims. And I wonder if that could be the reason for the insurance company sending out an engineer behind the adjuster. Just wondering.

He gave me a weird feeling when he came. He didn't seem to in tuned to the electrical part of the remodel and said that the house was not up to code despite the power company saying we were.

We have been very unsatisfied since they put the roof in.  We talked to them to have a roofing specialist come out, and we're still waiting on that.  They put in a roof that had no insulation.  They didn't tell us that there would be no insulation at all, and that's the biggest problem.  I don't know why they didn't inform us in the first place.  I don't think I would use them for anything.

We were not happy.  They were not the low bidders, but we went with them because of reputation here in town.  When we originally contacted with them it was to take the roof that was on all the way back to the decking to make sure that there was no issue with the decking so they got the under alignment and everything.  Had I not been here and actually watching them and being aware of what was going on, that would not have happened.  I had to stop the crew who did not speak any English.  I'm not opposed to that except that there was nobody here to translate for them.  They apparently were not told what was expected.  We had sort of a battle to get them to comply with what we had contracted for.  They finally did do that, but it just wasn't a good experience at all.  It was way too hard for what it had to be.  The job turned out to be adequate.  It's an adequate roof.  It wasn't the bottom line shingle roof, but it was a shingle roof.  It's architectural shingles.  Had we not stayed on top of it, we wouldn't have had what we contracted to have.  Quality, after the battle is a B.  We would not use them again in the future.

On 10/15/09 noticed leak by Chimney and connection of patio to house. Called Universal and had them check since they did original work in 2000 with previous owner. Ken the owner of Universal Roofing came out on 10/16/09 and gave us an estimate of $800.00 for repairs. We wanted to prevent damage to our home's interior. We called him the next day and repairs were done by Universal Roofing 10/20/09. We also spent $1,300 in interior repairs. In March of 2010 we had heavy rain and noticed that roof was leaking in the same place repairs were done. Ken came out again and said that he neglected to notice on 10/16/09 that my roof was damaged from 8/19/2008 Storm. Said I should file claim with insurance. I was upset about him not realizing this and charging us $800 plus spending $1,300 in interior repairs and now once again damaged. He said he would discount when house was re-roofed by Insurance company. On April 28 claim was denied for new roof by insurance. They paid for interior repairs, but said roof was not damaged in storm. That same day I contacted Ken and he said he would get report from insurance and review. On 5/7 I called Universal because of heavy rains and I wanted a tarp placed on house by Universal to protect house from further damage. I was told Ken was out sick and son would call me. His son never returned my call. On 5/10/10 Ken called me and suggested I contact a Insurance Public Adjuster that he had used in the past. The adjuster would charge me 20% of whatever the insurance paid. Again I asked about the repairs I was charged for he said he would compensate me when I re-roofed with his company. On 5/11/10 I contacted Insurance Adjuster Ken suggested he said he would inspect my roof with Ken on 5/21/10. I should not put a tarp on until inspection. On 5/21 I signed a contract with the Insurance adjuster. Much back and forth went on and claim was denied again. Adjuster suggested an attorney in Tampa. I then insisted a tarp because of raining season around corner. On 6/18/10 Universal installed a tarp and said the insurance company would pay the $2,144.37 bill. After reading the contract the attorney sent me, I realized I would incur attorney charges regardless of litigation results. I then contacted a local attorney who happens to be Universal's attorney. He said that he wasn't familiar with Ken's work and that he trusted Ken's son opinion. He wanted his son to inspect my roof and tell him if he thought roof was damaged by storm. The attorney put in various calls in the span of almost two weeks. Ken's son never returned his call. The attorney and I put in various calls and never heard back from Universal roofing . I was concerned with the tarp since Homeowners Association had sent me a warning letter about tarp being on too long. In the middle of June the attorney asked another roofing company to inspect my roof. The roofer said that my roof did not show any indication of damage from storm. The roof now did have to be re-roofed due to damage by tarp. The attorney called me and said he could not represent me against the Insurance company based on what his roofer said. He said he could not continue to speak to me about my roof since he has represented Universal Roofing in the past and gives him business. I then had an independent engineer inspect my home 10/14/10. I was charged $600 for this independent report. The engineer verified that there was no storm damage and that repairs were needed to be made. We decided to re-roof since there was so much damage done. We, of course, used another roofing company that did an excellent job. We did not want Universal Roofing near our roof.

It seemed pricey at the time. Three years later, 2 of my sky lights are now leaking. I would not consider them for future work.
