THRIFTY CAR RENTAL

The first car we chose seemed fine til we turned on the heat and it REEKED of cat urine. We u-turned in the garage to trade it for something else. The second car has a mild sour smell, but we just bought an air freshener as we picked up groceries. We missed the last exit for gas on returning the car and turned it in with 3/4 tank. We were charged $9.29/gallon which comes to $45.00. When I complained about this price gouging, the company response was basically "too bad, so sad" because the price per gallon was stipulated in our contract. I have reviewed this contract multiple times and nowhere does it say anything about the cost of the replacement gas. I understand that it was our choice not to spend the 20 minutes doing a u-turn to go back to the exit with a gas station, but had I known the gas would have been $45 dollars, I would have made a different choice. Mostly I was disappointed with the company's attitude about this issue.
