UPDATE 10/17/2016 Tropical not only never completed service, but accidentally broke one of my light fixture covers when trying to remove it, and took a replacement door arm joint (that I had purchased), with the promise that they would return it and purchase the correct type?..etc?
Painting started on approx Feb. 18. House caulked and pressure washed. House painting went well but shutters were spray painted on a windy day which caused overspray on the house and drip marks on the shutters. Changed paint and second attempt went well.
When doors were painted, they were NOT removed from the hinges nor were the door knobs removed. I think they told me they had applied 4 coats to one door but it was still streaking the paint. They then primed the door and tried to paint again. After this was still a bad paint job (I have pictures of the doors in progress) they decided we needed to buy an oil based paint. Door was primed again and oil based paint applied. Painter did a horrible job with drips and runs; and when the door was opened the next morning, the paint had stuck to the weatherstripping and pulled away from the door. This was on March 11. This is the front door.
March 19 same painter was sent back and started to strip door. only got 1 panel partially completed then stopped, saying the door should be removed and stripped but could not due to rain.
March 22, after 2 beautiful days still nothing. Owner said he would be back on 3/24 to personally complete. Applied many coats of a strong paint stripper but door was not coming clean. Owner said the only way to complete the job was to replace the door.
I was away for work from 3/29 through 4/14 and nothing was done during my absence. 4/18 new (from rehab place I'm guessing due to the many dents on it) front door was installed and painted. Paint was bubbly and large smear where it was grabbed while paint was still wet. In addition, the door is not the same size as the original door, short by 1/2 inch in both height and width. I was left with an inch gap at the bottom and the door was so far from the latch that only the dead bolt would catch and only then by about a 1/4 inch.
Back door was also a mess. No hardware was removed to paint and hinges were painted. The door was not even opened to paint so paint was also partially on the inside jamb. Door had window and only part of the window was painted (again, I have pictures to show all of these comments).
I paid to have this done on 1/9 and work didn't start for over a month. Here we are on April 19 and I am still waiting.to have this completed to my satisfaction. Owner stated that they did NOT measure door before ordering a replacement thus the reason for the door that does not fit the opening.
At this point, over 3 months later, I am totally frustrated with this whole transaction and would like to be refunded a portion of my money to enable me to purchase a new door to replace the one that is totally unable to be repaired and to have it painted properly.
