after reading excellent reviews on Angies List, i took my new laptop to have a few issues fixed. total of 4 items. i called and set up an appointment to drop it off on Monday March 23 at 9am. when i got there, he was gone. no one home. i called and tried to set up a 2nd appointment, and left a message for him to call me back when it was convenient to drop off. he never called back.
a week went by, and i tried again. this time he called me back and told me he was very busy with a big project, but i could drop it off at Noon Monday March 30. i did. he started running a virus scan. it would take several hours, so i left it with him, along with a list of the issues i was having. (wouldnt come out of Hibernate, and some hardware issues). i called him the following Wednesday April 1, and left a message asking how progress was going. he called me back 20mins later and explained to me he was out of town in the middle of a much bigger project, and he still needs to run a virus scan. (he ran one while i was there, so clearly, he wasnt doing anything with it...). so i called him again Friday, only this time no call back...
the weekend went by, and i waited for him to call me during the week. no call. i didnt call again until Wednesday April 8. by this time hes had my laptop for a week and a half. he answered the phone this time! said he was working on it now, but some of the things i wanted done he couldnt do. he needed some specific cables from Dell for the hardware issues. but the other problems should be worked out and fine, and i can pick it up by the end of day. i go and pick it up, and took his word that everything he could fix, was fixed. seemed to work fine in his workshop. paid him the $50.
when i got home, i set it up to hibernate, and left it for the next day. i took it to work and turned it on (brought it out of hibernate) and it locked up as usual! the problem wasnt fixed! i called him and he said to bring it by. when i go there, it came out of hibernation just fine! AAAGH! he looked at the event log and saw there was an error due to an IP conflict between my home network and work network. (an IP address assigned from my home network was saved during hibernation, and upon "wake up", that same address was assigned to something else at my work network. -makes sense.) the solution was to change my IP settings in my router at my home network. so i did. then i tested this, and once again, it STILL locks up when waking from hibernation even from my home network. im still seeing the same error in the event log.
i give up. im going to have to save all my data and simply wipe and re-install Windows, which i was hoping to avoid. Andro at Millennium Computer Services didnt do a thing for me except waste 2 weeks of my time and charge me for it.
he seems knowledgeable, and a total computer geek, but hes not much into proper communication or customer service. if hes got a bigger gig, hes going to drop you like a hot potato, and never tell you. also, you should expect to see several people there getting their computers worked on while he jumps from one to the other to the other... hes overworked and how he keeps things straight is beyond me. he was also constantly on the phone talking to his friends or family throughout. i clearly wasnt a priority, but was waaay on his backburner, and i fell like ive been burned.
"First of all, I am sorry you have this experience, you brought me 4 problems, they involve taking your computer in parts, scanning it for viruses, installation of new drivers, check the hard drive for errors, and more… for sure it took me longer than any other computer problem I had to do, and I did not charged you extra for that, even when my website have a $99.99 total care service which is for people like you having mix of hardware problems and software problems; since the first day, I told you it will take time and you told me NO RUSH ON IT. You wrote that I did your computer while doing other computers too, so you expect that for $50 I will work a whole week just on your computer, really?, that is the way that we work (IT Technicians) we work on different computers at the same time because every process we ran on a computer takes time and most of the time we just have to wait until it finish to run the next test or repair, that’s why BestBuy keeps the computers for 15 days and charge you a lot of money for that, I work like that for the last 20 years and as you mentioned I have a lot of good reviews everywhere, to be honest with you, this is my first negative review in my whole life. Again, you mentioned that I did not communicated with you at all, you told me no rush on it, I told you I will call you when I finish it, why I have to call you letting you know the progress?, not even BestBuy does that. You wrote that you were too small for me, I was doing a $6,000 project (3 days) and I took your computer to fix it even when I could tell you I don’t want to deal with it based on the amount of problems I had to cover for only $50. I am the owner of my business and I am the one that choose the time to work, I am open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 9pm, but if I need to change that time like during this 2 months I communicate that to my clients like I did to you ON THE PHONE SINCE THE FIRST CALL, I TOLD YOU I WILL OPEN FROM 9AM TO 5PM, right?. You also mentioned that I did not fix anything you asked me to, I don’t understand why you said that, the only thing you said is not fixed is the hibernation problem which never happened in here, but I clearly told you if whatever happen to the computer you can call me, but you decided to write this awesome review, thank you for that, I told you for free how to set up your router to fix the IP issues you also were having, clearly if the event viewer keeps telling you the IP conflict is still there, is because you did not changed it properly. About me talking on the phone, I receive lots of calls from clients like you, asking me for location, hours, or just telling me their computer problem over the phone, sometimes I also help them over the phone, also if I have a personal call I am the one that decide if I take it or not, not you, that never had interfere with my work, I am sorry that I can multitask, I still don’t know why you kept telling in the report you did that I charged you for doing nothing, I covered all the points you brought here but the hibernation that never happened in here, I also told you if anything happens to your computer you can always bring it back. I also noticed that you gave a C to my $50 labor price, really?, you think I should work for free?. Again, thank you for your time writing this report, you could expend it in here looking for a solution."
