Massey allowed my yard to go to weed on two occasions. Both times, they made some excuse about not knowing that part of the yard belonged to me (did they not read their own blueprint that the sales guy drew up), and the yard died, and had giant weeds in it. They never could control the weeds, and ended up resoding the yard twice. However, this only happened after I complained loudly. After the first time, they again let it get full of weeds, and large sections of it die.
Then, when I had had enough, and cancelled my services, they sent out the pest control again, and tried to charge me. I called them and said I had cancelled. Their excuse was that I cancelled with lawn, and that pest was another division. I explained I had one sales person and one point of contact, so I had cancelled. It's not my fault they didn't communicate.
Massey ended up writing off the charges, but not after a fight.
I would not recommend them for any services. I had a very bad experience.

They are a large operation in central Florida. Their founder is Harvey Massey and he is very highly respected in the community. He's a straight shooter. We have a couple of annual contracts with them; one is for pest prevention around the house and the other one is for termites. The thing we liked about them at the outset was when they first came out we were having problems with bugs in the house and they said they don't spray inside the house. I asked how they were going to get rid of the bugs and they said that the bugs all come in from the outside and don't originate in your house. All of their treatment is done around the foundation and exterior of the property. It has worked out very nicely. It has taken about 6 months to see the bugs disappear but they told us that up front. It was silverfish and that kind of thing. It is rare now to see one in the house. We pay $90 quarterly for the pest prevention. We have 2 separate contracts and they have separate specialists for the termites. They trim the bushes around the air conditioner to make sure the bugs don't get in. We had some fire ants appear in our backyard and I assumed they only covered around the foundation. I called them to see what they could recommend and they said that it was also covered in our contract because it was part of our property. They sent a guy out to take care of the fire ants. We have been quite happy with them. We use them regularly.

Last year when we renewed this company who bought out our old company we had the same tech and he performed both services. When I called to schedule the appointment I was told both services would be performed on the same day. While I could request the same tech (who was also with the old company) they could not promise he would be available on the date. When the day came it was a new tech but he said he didn't know why he was sent - since he was not trained or certified to do termite. He could only do pest. I complained to him that I thought it would be one appointment - now I would have to tie up another morning or afternoon with another tech. So requested the tech again and this tech said that should not be a problem. He'd have the office call me today for another appointment time. Later that day the tech's supervisor called and left a long voice mail as to why he could not send the old tech. I thought it a bit odd since the main problem was not sending a tech to do both services - pest and termite - on one day. The supervisor didn't mention that at all - no apologies, nothing. No phone call came from the office that day either so the next afternoon I called requesting an appointment for the termite. I went into an explanation of what had happened and that I was upset having to schedule another appointment. The person who answered the phone finally said she was just an answering service and the office was closed - but she didn't answer the phone that way - I assumed she was office staff. About a half hour later the office left a message - guess they re-opened just for me - and said they had been trying to reach me all day. This was an obvious lie. So the next day I called the corporate headquarters. When I complained about the lie, the one tech and only one service, having to schedule two appointments instead of one, and not having the old tech available, the person in customer service told me that the office was calling me back after hours and they were just doing their job. This wasn't the problem - why was headquarters defending this behavior? So now not only am I yelling now I am swearing. And for swearing at bad service the new response to this in business is to hang up on you - to punish the customer for the bad behavior that the company created. The customer service rep said she'd have to send me to this other guy due to my swearing. I begged her to do so and to take a customer service course or quit her job. The guy I was referred to of course was busy. I had to have him call me back. When he called back he asked to tell me what had happened. I did so. He asked what day I wanted the service and who I requested. I picked the following Monday. It was completed that day. Before renewal next year I will be pricing out other pest control companies from Angie's List. I am sorry this company bought out our old company. I never had this problem with the old company.

Fired Massey in May 2009. They were all talk and no action. Lawn weeds continued to flourish, shrubs were infested with insects, and irrigation work was not done. I complained so many times about what I was seeing in my lawn that I had them on speed dial. After 6 months of deteriation I fired them. I felt 6 months was enough time to show results. I kept getting the same old rhetoric - your lawn will improve with time and water. After I fired them I had Tru Green come in. The lawn made an amazing turn around in 30 days. Weeds on the decline, lawn showning excellent signes of recovery, and insects in shrubs gone. Do not contract with Massey. All they want is your hard earned dollars for little to no effort. After I fired them then they became very interested in my lawn. Wanted to do free service, etc. I told them to take a hike. After 6 months and they couldn't take care of my lawn even after I was telling them what was going on.

Basically, they are a good company (but I think they are using inferior materials in the last few years, because bugs keep coming back). I think they are using under the minimum needed to keep bugs away. Basically it appears to be cheap boric acid powder that they blow around in the cracks and crevices.
