There were several delays with the project and one worker that became upset and walked off job. He did not cover shower drain well when working on shower and drain became clogged. I have had difficulty with maintaining a seal around shower floor and have recauked multiple times. I finally had crew come out to check shower and after removing tiles we wound that they had not caulked sill of window (only grouted) and that water from shower had been draining behind wall . Needless to say I now have to redo the entire wall with new wood and repair wood damage. I was advised that this could have been prevented if Howard Construction would have simply caulked sill. I would not recommend this company for any remodel, particularly if it is a bathroom area.
however, the roof continued to leak. this went on for about 2 months, and it was finally fixed by a roofing company named Shelton i think. i had planned on suing the first roofer but after all the drama with this repair, i hesitated. i wrote an email to Don expressing my disappointment, nothing more... owner wrote a LONG email about all that they did for me with a no-guarantee repair. he also demanded a letter of apology from me . i immediately called their office to let him know that there was definitely a miscommunication as the email he wrote was hurtful. i was told he could not take my call then and would call back. i called twice again in as many weeks and have never heard from him. I truly did want to talk to him and explain there were NO hard feelings. I was courteous and polite on the phone and the lady who answers the phone always took my information but seemed to be protective of the owner which i found to be rather odd! i told her that i was calling about an email that i had received, she then resent the email stating that i had informed her that i had not received the email. SO much misinformation going on which could have been avoided had he called me back and listened to me on the phone!
It was reiterated that the work was done with "No warranty" in the email. I still think to this day that the work should be completed first time with all that $$. That is all i wanted. The events he advised me what were done - i didn't see them as i was very very sick. The workers did not knock on the door and i had no calls from Don or his staff.
I am still disappointed that the repair took so long. i now have to replace the kitchen ceiling area from the chronic leak.
i am an older person and understand the ins and outs of warranties/guarantees/policies etc. this type of behavior made no
sense to me whatsoever. my neighbor was with me when he came out for the estimate and agrees with me that he was certain of the problem and solution. who knew?! I actually fear retaliation from him when he reads this. I just want "buyer beware."
I fully expected a draining experience, but I was completely surprised. Howard Construction assigned a Superintendent to my job who was amazingly thorough, honest and actually "on my side". The quality of work was truly wonderful and they fixed areas of my house back to its original condition. What they promised me was, my house would be put back in as good, if not better, condition, and that is exactly what happened.
I don't know who offered the better service; State Farm or Howard Construction. For something that could have been absolutely horrible, it ended up being inconvenient, for sure, but not once, contentious or frustrating.
You can hire Howard Construction with complete confidence.
