Plumbing
Called & schedule visit. First visit: plumber said his company had experience with my homebuilder & this was a common problem usually fixed by resealing the shower drain. Charged $95 for visit & said if it continues to leak they would come out again, no charge. It continued to leak. Second visit: same plumber came and was late arriving. He removed the shower head and pipe it was attached to. He re-taped the pipe on both ends. Also said there might be a hole in floor of shower and applied sealant to area. He tried to take the faucet off to check behind the wall, but said either the screw was missing or was stripped. Leak continued. Third visit: father/owner of family business came out arriving late for our scheduled appointment. He used a two-prong stick on first floor ceiling where leak spots were and said it was "bone dry" - I explained we hadn't been using the shower, so no leaking. He tried to remove the faucet, couldn't and said he had to order that part, because if he ends up having to break it to take it off he needs a new one to replace it. This part is quite common (not a specialty) so I don't know why it would have to be ordered rather than going to a local store to get it. He ran shower for short time and now instead of the ceiling spots getting wet, water dripped from the holes he made with his stick. Plumber did not call me, I called the plumber and he said the part was not yet in. I had to call again. He said the part came in, we scheduled him to come out. Fourth visit: Owner/father came out again. He did not have the new part, explaining that a special allen wrench was included with the part and that was what he needed to take the faucet off (a plumber didn't already know this about a common part???). He took the faucet off; there was no leak behind the wall. To find the leak he would have to cut a hole in the ceiling. He said they don't do drywall repair, so I should have a drywall person cut the hole. I explained that I have to take off from work for each visit and would like him to cut the hole and find the leak today, which he did. He said the pvc pipe from the drain through the trap would need to be replaced. He said he would need to order the part. I requested a written estimate for the repair. He said he would get back with me with an estimate in 2-3 days. I have not heard from this plumber in now over 3 weeks! Overall impression: extremely unresponsive, inept (didn't seem to know some basic issues), poor customer service, not very punctual. Overall grade: D
