My Mom has been using Air Doctor for many years. She has them out twice a year to maintain her HVAC. The same guy usually; he charges $35. The day I called them for her, the A/C had stopped working. They offered to come out that same afternoon at a ridiculous upcharge. I said that the following day would be fine. The young man that showed up knew what it was right away (clogged drain line) and even told us that the Condo Association would suck the lines out for free. Then he proceeded to vacuum the line out, dumped some bleach in the drain and handed me a bill for $215. I was shocked! At least he had the decency to look embarrassed. At the very least, I should have been told what it was going to cost BEFORE the service was rendered. I certainly know how to turn on a shop vac and pour bleach in a drain. I would never have agreed to that price. Never. I'm not even sure this was legal. My Mom was very upset but she wrote him a check. After the young man left, I called the office and asked to speak to someone about my bill and explained what the problem was. The guy said that was the correct price and that it reflected my condo association discount! Ridiculous!! This is just bad business and everyone I've spoken to agrees. We will never use them again, ever!
"We were hired by your home warranty company (American home Shield) to diagnose and then subsequently repair the air conditioner. Once we relayed to them that it needed a compressor they buy it and deliver it to us. We have no control or influence over the availability of the part. We understand that this is very frustrating in the summer heat but it sure saves you money. As for mold forming in a non operating air conditioner this is not the case, When an ac is not operating no water is generated and therefore no mold forms."
"The person submitting this complaint is a tenant of the home owner and has never hired us to do anything. We have settled all issues with the home owner and are in good standing with her. Please remove this review as it is not pertinent or honest."
It turns out the capacitor needed to be replaced so he got one from his truck installed it and installed lugs at the electrical connection. Total cost $92. It is still running fine. We will be using Barron's in the future for all our A/C service needs.
