A couple weeks ago I contacted them to get an estimate to repair a solar hot water heater (for domestic water) that the previous owner had installed. The roof panel burst before we bought the house. Their salesman came to the house. While he was at my home he looked up at the roof (from the ground) and he noticed a problem with the pipe going to the pool heater.
They used defective pipe between the pump and the solar collectors on the roof. He told me that he would contact the office and get them to send someone to replace the pipe. He told me not to worry - there would be no charge.
Their technician came to the house 2 days ago and gave me a bill for $59. I told him that Rick Zay (the salesman) told me there wouldn't be a charge. He said "let me check with the office". He called the office and they told him to at least collect 1/2 of it. I refused and told him that Rick told me it wouldn't cost anything.
They have responded with an invoice saying the pipe and labor was free but there is a $59 diagnostic charge. I called them and told them Rick said it was covered. They called me back again to say I have to pay $59.
Once you give them the money you will be pretty much on your own. Don't believe them when they tell you they will take care of you after the sale.
After this review was posted, Solar Lights and More agreed to not charge me the $59.
"We would like to take this opportunity to respond to your comments regarding the solar tubular skylight, our records indicate the original purchase & installation of the tubular skylight was from the previous homeowner on July 29. 2004. The original owner was very happy with our product and company, and never required any service on the product. On March 17, 2014, approximately 10 years later, we received our first service call from the new homeowner indicating the solar tubular skylight was leaking, our technician thoroughly inspected and sealed all the components attached to the roof, and charged a $59 diagnostic fee with customer approval. On March 31, 2014 we received another call indicating the light was still leaking, at that time we sent our senior technician and his assistant to conduct the inspection of the unit and determine the source of the leak. Upon inspection and after a water test was performed, it was determined the leak was originating approximately 12" - 14" above the light and traveling down to the light opening into the diffuser. Because the source of the leak was not the solar tubular skylight, the recommendation was to contact a roofer for repairs to the roof. Please contact our office for further discussion, we are here to service you."
Solar Lights and More were okay. They promised me that the hot water heater would cut utilities by 30% and it did not do that. It maybe only cut 10%. The service was okay but the pricing that I paid compared to others premium price. What they say didn't happen. I never received any follow up from the installers. They said there was no way in knowing down the line if the vents were still working or not. They were professional, but I would not use them again.
"In response to the 30% utility savings, it is not our practice to quote a percentage, that number must have a come from a utility company or another solar quote. As far as a premium price, we do offer premium products, however our price is lower than other quotes that [member name removed] received. To our knowledge all systems are functioning properly up to date, we have not had any correspondence with [member name removed] since time of installation. All systems installed are currently under warranty, specifically our solar attic fans are covered by a 25 year warranty. If any issues arise please contact our office."
