Initially, it went well. The problem was, Jim, the salesman and owner of Demetri Homes forgot about including window screens with the new double pane glass windows. Our old acrylic windows were light in weight and could be easily lifted out of their track for cleaning. So, the original screens were permanently installed as one big screen covering the entire window area. Late in the job, when I noticed the potential problem, I asked how I was going to be able to clean the windows with the original screen still in place. Jim suggested that my husband and I lift the new heavy windows out as we had done with the acrylic windows. I told Jim we would never be able to lift them given the weight of the new windows and our age. The windows ranged in size with some being over 38and quot; wide x 54and quot; tall. Let me go back to say, when we were initially discussing the purchase, Jim told us everything would be new, the aluminum framing, windows and screens. When he quoted us the price, it was way too high for our budget. He said that he could work it out to our satisfaction by keeping the aluminum frame work in place which was in very good condition. He said that this would significantly reduce the cost. He also said everything else would be as we had originally discussed.
I honestly think he simply forgot about the screens. He ended up attaching individual framed screens to the outside of the windows. The problem is, since the window frame is only a double track frame, instead of a triple track, there is no place for his new screens to be supported, so they keep slipping down causing large open gaps between the framed screen and the framed windows. As it stands, it is a mess in that we can't open our lanai windows without getting all kinds of creatures crawling in and, with a heavy wind, the screens fly off the lanai. I mentioned this problem to Jim several times, but to no avail. I like Jim. He's a nice guy. But, we should not have to suffer because of his oversight. Jim has done work for several of our friends and has done a great job. But, we are still stuck with this problem. For that reason, I can not recommend him.Licensing
