As I type this, I don't actually know how much I'm being charged because after I'd taken this exceptionally BIG and awkward tractor out of my trailer (a difficult matter), and because the shop owner promised me a quick turnaround on it (the next day, if it needed no parts; three business days later if it did), I did not press the issue when he wouldn't give me a firm estimate. The price didn't matter, though--as I told him--because I was under considerable pressure to use the tractor as I was contractually obligated to do for someone else. Imagine my anger when the (or "a") mechanic from this shop called my home (rather than the cell phone I told the owner specifically to call and the number which I watched him write down on the service sheet) and asked the person who answers the phone in my absence about details on the tractor which we had already discussed at length when I dropped it off. Of course, I do not know if the person who called was the same person I left it with, but that wasn't what has me filing this report now. What I'm furious about is that the day the shop called was the very same "three business days" that the owner, "Steve," had set as when my tractor would be finished! (Clearly, the job hadn't even been started yet.) My assistant relayed to me that she'd been told the tractor would be done in two, or maybe three, days hence. Today is "three days hence." It is 4:30 p.m. and I still have no tractor. I had called the shop on the "second day hence," and then I left a detailed, concerned yet polite message on the morning of the third day (today), each time asking about the progress on the tractor. Today, I can't get anyone on the phone except a secretary shared with another shop in the same business park. She supposedly called "Steve," who was "out on a call," but he hasn't deigned to call me back. Clearly, this business, a mobile repair shop as well as one with a garage, puts mobile clients before shop clients--but they do not tell you that. Moreover, clearly, they are extremely unprofessional: "salesmen" types who give you a spiel and make encouraging promises which they have no intention of following through on. Then they proceed to avoid your phone calls, string you along, hold your equipment hostage and then deal with it at their convenience, while totally ignoring yours. In my opinion they are exactly the type of mechanics who give mechanics a bad name.
Description of Work: The governor on my Sears Craftsman 26hp, 54-inch cut garden tractor had either gotten stuck or was broken. When I left the tractor with this shop, I was told of two possibilities: if the governor was merely stuck (or bent) it would be unstuck or unbent and ready for pick up the next day; if the governor was broken, it would be necessary to take the engine apart and order parts, possibly, which would mean it wouldn't be available until Wednesday (the exact day was stated, a day which was three business days from the day I'd dropped it off).
