Bud Smith, owner of Accurate Building Contractors is a businessman you need to avoid. He fails to return calls after he decides he is done with your project. If you do choose him do not give him the last check until you are 100% sure everything is done correctly. I have learned the hard way that people are not how they appear. We paid on time when he asked for payment and we treated him as if he were a friend. This was a mistake. Today we confirmed he really does have poor business ethics. Before today we only suspected this was true. I am by no means knowledgeable about doing renovations. I sure know more now after dealing with Mr. Smith. I knew we were required to have building permits. I discussed this with him before work began. Mr. Smith said he would obtain the permits needed. I told him I wanted to do everything that was required by Palm Beach County the right way because I did not want any problems in the future. I have a neighbor who did a similar renovation to mine without pulling permits. This was not a path I wished to go down. He asked me for some information about my house which I provided. He told me the process to obtain permits would take awhile but it was ok to begin the work and do the inspections later. When the work was completed we gave his father in law the last check. Bud Smith was supposed to call me to set up a final walk through. That never happened. We discovered a light switch that was hot. We figured he would just have his electrician come back and check to see what was causing the problem. We did not want a fire to start inside the wall where the switch was located. I left several messages with no response. Today, one year later I found out he only pulled one permit. He never pulled any other permits nor scheduled any inspections. I did check on line to see if he pulled permits. It appeared he had but I was still not sure. I should have called Palm Beach County to confirm he had pulled the permits. My ignorance of the process is no defense. I am guilty of not treating this individual with more caution and made him more accountable. He took advantage of my inexperience. I would not recommend his company to anyone. It seems after reading another review Bud Smith has a behavioral track record of not returning calls. Walk away from this guy not toward him! There has to be other contractors with a more ethical conscience who will treat you as a valued customer.

I viewed some of Bud's work through a friend referral and it was decent quality and he was supposedly easy to work with. when we drew up plans to remodel our house we included him as one of our choices. In fact he was our main choice. we worked with an architect he recommended drew up plans and put them to him for a preliminary bid to get a feel for what we could afford. Bud doesn't like to work off a set price so this was just to give us an idea what was in our range to get done. He reviewed our plan and after concluding the first plan was out of our range he gave us a proposal which sounded good. we went to the architect, paid for the final engineering drawings and submitted the new plans (Bud was the only one who had seen the new plans at this point). The other contractors practically laughed when they saw the plans. One contractor came back with a bid 230% above our budget, the other 165% over our budget and BOTH asked how it was possible Bud came up with his preliminary bid, saying it wasn't possible to be done for the price we were quoted. We shook our heads and awaited Bud's final bid. A month went by - we never heard from him. we sent e-mails, the architect called him- no response. He NEVER had the courtesy to call us again. We through his proposal away (wasting more than a $1000 in engineering and architect drawings, not to mention countless hours of our time) and met with the architect and other contractors, icluding two new ones. all said ABC (Bud) either never actually looked at the plans before giving us the preliminary ok or purposely threw a low number on the plan because he had no intention of bidding. So, a couple months into our planned remodeling - we were sent back to square one. All because we made the mistake of making Bud Smith of Accurate Building Contractors, Inc. our preferred contractor. We will have to pay the engineer again and we have wasted so much time that our project is now pushed into the upcoming rainy/hurricane season, never mind the dozens of hours of our time he wasted.
Description of Work: Planned addition onto an existing house and remodeling of some of the existing house. We worked with Bud in creating plans and designing the project. Only to have him completely disappear when it came time to bid the project. Afterward, other contractors reviewed his plan and declared it unworkable without almost doubling the budget.
