If you like chasing your contractor to get the work done, use American Sod otherwise USE ANYONE ELSE but them!!!!
Their price was fair but between the poor quality of work, timeliness, numerous phone calls, having to complete some work ourselves and no resolution on some issues we way over paid!!When we first contacted them, the salesman and owner appeared professional and were easy to reach. They came out 2 or 3 times prior to starting so we were all clear on what we needed and wanted. They quoted 8 days to complete and it took 4 weeks! They ran short on the sod by 2 pallets and had to come back several days later. (don't you know how to meaure?) We asked mutiple times before and during about the grading because we installed Empire Zoysia not floritam. The owner Dave said " I guarantee you will be happy" Well after our first lawn cutting, certain sections are scalped. We patiently waited (per their crew supervisor) and now our second lawn cutting produces the same thing- certain areas are so high, the mower scalps them.
We learned later that sod should be rolled immediately after installation but they didn't do it until 2 weeks later because they didn't have a roller ( how does a sod company operate with out this important piece of machinery??)!!
Our other complaint is how we had to chase them. Because it took 4 weeks instead of 8 days, we called to find out what was going on. Every time we called the office or his cell phone , we either got promises of a call back or we went into voicemail. And then we had to call again and again and again because we rarely got a call back. I'm talking about calling every day for 7 days!! The one time they did call us on their own, was when it was time to collect the balance due.
This whole experience was the worst thing we ever went through as homeowners! It was very stressful and we still don't have the lawn we contracted for. Oh and we had to pay a city fine, because American Sod never pulled the permit!
We take pride in our property and thought we had been very selective about who we hired, but boy were we taken for a ride!

I would not use this company in the future. Initally, the sod was delivered when promised. It was installed and rolled out when promised. However, since part of the service includes treatment of old sod with round-up, there was still a half pallet remaining to be installed, and we mutually agreed that they would be back to install on 4/6/2012, when the old sod had been properly destroyed. They didn't show up on that date, nor on 4/9/2012. After that, we were promised on approximately (7) different occasions that they would be coming to finish the job. Whenever they didn't show up, we would call the owners cell phone. The inbox was full every time, except twice when I would leave a message. Two or three times, we left a message with the office. My last call to the office was on 4/27/2012. The receptionist apologized and said that they would definitely finish the job on Saturday, 4/28/2012. They never came, and I am at the end of the line. I sent the owner an email today, 4/30/12 and posted on their facebook site. I am asking for a check of $100 for the half pallet owed. I need to look elsewhere to have this burnt piece of grass to receive new sod. Other than simply not showing up to finish the work we paid for, we deeply resent the total lack of communication from the company in general and the owner in particular.

"You told us not to return and thus breached your contract.As for using Angie's list as a pulpit for strong-arm robbery i think not. Lying to your neighbor and trying to cause unrest between you two. I will have no part of. We are a Professional Company and will not be forced into modifying the terms of the contract.Sod must be laid the day its harvested, Sod can not be harvested when wet (7 days of Rain)"

Initial contact with this contractor went smoothly. Installation of new sod appeared to be completed to my satisfaction in early December, 2011. However within two weeks it became obvious that some of the original grass had been killed, but not replaced by new sod. Calls to both the owner and a salesman over the past two months have resulted in three promises to repair the situation, including specific dates that the work would be done. But nothing has been done.
At this point, I am hiring another company to complete the job properly.

As of reciept of this report the Offending Sales Person has been fired and we offer our appoligies, We never Knowingly condone such action from our sales staff and will rectify this situatiuon at the members satisfaction."
