Response from GFY Construction LLC
"[member name removed] hired GFY Construction to do maintenance on steps, to have engineering done on the steps, and to meet with the city building inspector to make sure that the project would be up to code. The condo units are rented for seasonal use, so GFY Construction wanted to make sure that all city, county and state codes were met. Mr. Brownlee decided that he wanted to take the project on himself, so the cost for the project included all labor at site to repair the safety issues. The cost also included several hours of meetings between the builder, the engineer, and county officials. GFY Construction decided to not continue on with the project because the president of the association wanted to do the project himself. GFY Construction is a state certified construction company. When doing projects we like to make sure that everything is 100% legal and up to code. We did not feel that this project was going to meet those standards, so we declined to do the project beyond the safety repairs that were necessary at that time."

The remodel was performed in stages because of the supplier delivery times for the granite fabrication and cabinet manufacturing not a delay by the contractor.
The workers were very careful and minimal damage was done to my residence.

For the most part this was a great experience.  Mr. DeShay was professional, he works well with his team, and his prices can't be beat.  The team is good, but without their direct supervision they got a bit listless.  But the job got done, had to have them come back once or twice to fix a few small things, but they did what I needed done and it worked out great.

Dealt with Mike directly, and met a few of his crew. He is extremly curtious and willing to work with you to get the job you need done. He was very punctual and trustworthy as was his crew and was able to finish in the schedule he quoted. Highly recommended.

Overall everything went well .If anything unexpected came up Mr Deshey took care of it efficiently. Mr. Deshey and his men took pride in their work; often going back to touch up something they weren't happy with. Mr. Deshey was very good about checking around to find the best price and quality of products he used. Mr.Deshey always wanted to make sure I was happy with the job being done.

The entrance door wasn't completely flush w/frame and needed additonal work after the workers left. In addition, this company overcharged for the job. I unfortunately accepted a "verbal quote" over the phone, which proved to be unwise considering the company increased the price by $100.00. My recommendation would be to get everything in writing before hiring this particular company. Also, ensure work is completed to your satisfaction prior to anyone leaving the job site.

"Unfortunately the member choose to purchase a door from a local vendor to save money. The first door ordered was the wrong size and did not meet the current building code, Second the door being replaced needed a deeper sil plate due to a brick sill, which is a special order and cost more money, so yes an additional sill plate was needed after the door was installed, and the original builder of the house used contractor quality hardware, which fell apart when taken off the old door. We replaced the hardware at no charge."

I found Mike Deshay through Angie?s List and contacted him regarding a small repair job for my backdoor framing. He was prompt to answer his phone and communicated with me when he had to reschedule coming out to bid on the job. I have encountered other tradesmen that were condescending dealing with a woman, but Mike was happy to explain how he would correct the damage. He was knowledgeable about what materials to recommend that would prevent the damage from re-occurring. He researched prices for the materials that were needed and a few days later, provided a break-down of costs for labor and materials. I felt that his quote was fair and I hired him to make the repair. Even though the repair was a small job, Mike was able to schedule the work within a week. He continued to communicate with me as he promised, letting me know when to expect his team to arrive on the date scheduled. I very much appreciated that Mike answered his phone promptly; I never had a problem contacting him to ask a question. Some unexpected work was required, which set his schedule back an hour, but Mike and his team handled it in a courteous and professional manner, despite having other customers scheduled later that day. I was very pleased with his solution to the problem encountered, and with the quality of the over-all repair. He and his team finished quickly and cleaned-up the job-site before leaving. I highly recommend his services.

I have had mutliple bad experiences (no shows, poor quality work, don't answer their phone) with local contractors in the 9 years I have lived here. Mike Deshay runs his outfit with military precision. They show up on time everyday and stay till the work scheduled for the day is complete. Most importantly, they treat your home as if it were your own. Collateral damage(nicks, dings etc..) were minimal. At the end of each day they clean up their mess. We have used this company to do work on other properties. We always get several estimates and they always come in the lowest. This company was recommended to us by a local realtor who has used them on numerous properties. Mike is very responsive to our phone calls when we have questions. He also coordinated all the work done by other subs (electric, termite, plumbing, painting). Work that did not meet Mike Deshays or our satisfaction was redone immeadiately. In many cases work we were ok with did not meet Mike's standards and was reaccomplished. After seeing the job Mike did on our house a major pest control company has contracted with him to do several other damaged properties in the area. Bottomline--you get the most bang for your buck by using Mike Deshay renovations to do any type of home remodeling!
