"[member name removed] hired GFY Construction to do maintenance on steps, to have engineering done on the steps, and to meet with the city building inspector to make sure that the project would be up to code. The condo units are rented for seasonal use, so GFY Construction wanted to make sure that all city, county and state codes were met. Mr. Brownlee decided that he wanted to take the project on himself, so the cost for the project included all labor at site to repair the safety issues. The cost also included several hours of meetings between the builder, the engineer, and county officials. GFY Construction decided to not continue on with the project because the president of the association wanted to do the project himself. GFY Construction is a state certified construction company. When doing projects we like to make sure that everything is 100% legal and up to code. We did not feel that this project was going to meet those standards, so we declined to do the project beyond the safety repairs that were necessary at that time."
The workers were very careful and minimal damage was done to my residence.
"Unfortunately the member choose to purchase a door from a local vendor to save money. The first door ordered was the wrong size and did not meet the current building code, Second the door being replaced needed a deeper sil plate due to a brick sill, which is a special order and cost more money, so yes an additional sill plate was needed after the door was installed, and the original builder of the house used contractor quality hardware, which fell apart when taken off the old door. We replaced the hardware at no charge."
