We were quoted 89 dollars to diagnose and provide an estimate. We were charged 156 dollars to diagnose. The diagnosis was based on a short conversation with my husband. The service person ran a snake through the line. That's it. The problem isn't fixed so I called him back today. He indicated that we actually needed a much more expensive service to fix the problem but he didn't offer this service or tell us when he was here. He seemed fully aware that the more extensive service was what was needed to fix the problem but couldn't explain why it wasn't offered or discussed. Very disappointed.

I had two competing estimates from two different Benjamin Franklin plumbers who came to see my house. I took the one costing one third of the other. I experienced no improvement in speed of hot water to far end of house. I'm not sure the check valves as installed represented a solution at all. I will try someone else next time.

Faucet was replaced with no problem. However, the sales pitch that came next was with fear tactic-copper pipes are only good for 20-25 years, given an article claiming such, my house is over 30 years old. Residue from the sanded pipe was shown and told that it was where the pipe was rusting and that if a pinhole happened my whole house could be flooded and I would have to be out of the house for several days with the tile and floors having to be drilled through. It would be better to have the epex (sp) run through the attic. Pressure was added that if I waited to decide the y would not be able to add the work from the first day to the additional relaying of new pipes. People who take advantage of people to sell a product is not a very good business.

That price also included a one year contract through them(106.00). A $49.00 service call. Discounted from 79.00. If they had a sprinkler hose, it would have been cheaper for me, but, of course that was not in their best interest!

Our 23-year-old hot water heater failed and began leaking. We caught this before it did any damage to the house, and a plumber was out to look at it within a few hours. He quickly diagnosed the issue and provided recommendations as to what we could do moving forward. We opted to have a new hot water heater installed, and were scheduled for the next afternoon. The install went well with the installation crew showing up promptly at their scheduled time. They had the old heater out and the new one installed in short order. When they were about to light the pilot for the gas, the installer noticed a faint smell of gas, and after several minutes of probing around found a crack in the connection for the gas line. They discussed what they could do, and ordered another water heater. When that one arrived it was a used unit which was sent away, and the crew went to Home Depot/Lowes and bought a new one. Once the third unit was on site, it was installed in short order and we again had hot water. The price for this service seemed a bit high, but given the short turn times and the 24-hour availability that must be the driver. We paid approx $1,000 more than we thought it would cost based on knowing others who have had their heaters replaced. Lastly, we did not receive any paperwork aside from the invoice with notes attached. We were informed on the initial visit there was a 5-year warranty with a 100% remove and replacement of the heater if there were any issues. It would be nice to see this in writing though. I have never had an install happen without some sort of written warranty provided either on paper or via e-mail and attached with the invoice.

Caleb did an outstanding job with our repairs. He even came back the next morning with a part to complete the job. I was a little shocked when they gave me the quote of $945 for the work, but with the maintenance plan, I saved 15% and the $70 service fee. Still high, but realized that this is only done every 5 to 7 years....depending on water quality.

The dispatcher told me that someone would be at my home between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM but since there were several trucks operating in my area the possibility was good that someone could be there earlier. Eventually i was notified that the time would be moved out to sometime between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. They eventually arrived at around 8:30 PM and determined that the equipment that they had could not be used in my pipes and even if it could they could not access my roof vent due to the fact it was dark. They did offer a substantial discount for the job due to the lateness of the call and set up an appointment for the next morning at 8:00 AM. The technicians arrived at around 8:45 the next morning and did a wonderful job of completely clearing the drain in around an hour. They were especially good at explaining what they were doing as well as using gloves and shoe covers to protect floors and cabinets. So despite the scheduling snafus there was a good outcome.

I requested a call from Angies List at about 11 pm on a Thursday night. Friday morning at 8:15 I had a call back from BFP. They called to let me know they had an appointment Friday, just 4 hours later. The woman from the office who called was delightful, you could hear the smile in her voice! About 20 minutes later another woman called to advise they could move me up earlier, in fact they could have someone on the way because they finished a prior job early. The second woman was just as pleasant to speak with. When Jeff showed up he was thorough, knowledgeable and kind. Jeff knew exactly what to look for and listened to our concerns. I would definitely hire them for future work. My past experience with plumbers hasn't been ideal, this experience was such a departure from dealings with other companies in the area. Thank you Jeff and BFP!

I recently had a plumbing problem at my home in Navarre. Navarre uses lift pumps to push sewage out to the main line. The pumps have a grinder pump that chews up solids and pumps the tank out, which is level controlled. I called Ben Franklin Plumbers, on recommendation from Navarre City Water, who came out and gave me an estimate of $6,400 to install a new grinder and pump and control box. A copy of this quote is included. Ben Franklin Plumbers took my old pump out and saw that I had a large tank beneath the sleeve, so they didn’t need to replace it, instead using my existing tank and sleeve. When the electrician came, he said it would be an extra $1,800 to install an extra breaker, all of which was supposed to be included in the initial price. Since they were going to use my tank and sleeve, they said that they would just swap the price of the breaker for the new tank and sleeve. I felt I was overcharged, so I called Ben Franklin Plumbers and spoke with their representative, Nick. He said that they use the best pumps and that they back all their equipment. He said there are companies that charge less but that Ben Franklin does the best job, so there would be no reparations for the over-estimation on the job or for work not done. I checked with two other plumbers. One said that he would have done the same job for $2,600 to $2,800 and that he hated that Ben Franklin Plumbers overcharged for their service. The other plumber said that the cost of a 2 HP grinder pump installed with electrical box should have been $2,400 to $2,600.

Called for service at 9:00 AM was scheduled for 5:00 to 8:00 PM service. Service technician showed up just before 5:00 PM. Noted that the toilets would not drain and that blockage was between the house and the street. Notified me that the cost would be $344 + $69 Service Fee to "snake" the line from one of the roof vents. While I considered this at least double what this service should have cost I agreed. Within 20 minutes, the service was complete. Over $400 for less than 45 minutes work! I consider this exorbitant. I did receive a $25 Angie's List discount.

Plumber installed new faucet but it made an unusual noise when the hot or cold water was turned on. He then removed the faucet and installed another. Again, the faucet made an unusual sound when the water was turned on. The plumber then indicated that the sink was responsible for the unusual noise. However, the old leaky faucet NEVER made the noise.

Approximately a week ago we contacted Benjamin Franklin Plumbing by phone re the problem. They indicated it had been determined that the sink was responsible for the noise and that if a plumber came to check on it we might incur a service charge. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing claims to warranty their labor and parts for two (2) years...

We have not heard from BFP since our last call and are relegated to having an unsatisfactory $427 kitchen faucet.

When the plumber came he told me that he just needed to unclogged my kitchen drain. Then my washing machine would stop over flooding unto the floor. I feel my problem was too complex for this young plumber. I never felt that he knew what he was talking about.  He gave me a bill of $285 to unclogged my drain. But if I wanted to replace all my kitchen plumbing it would cost me over $5,000. Are you kidding me? Three days later my kitchen sink was clogged again and my washing machine was flooding.  So I called to get a refund and talked to the manager and received one. I finally did find a plumber who did the work for one third of the price and I am happy to say everything is working just fine.  I feel these large companies have too many employees that are not fully trained or can handle complex problems.  A small local plumber with three employees was able to give me the personal service I needed. I plan to give my business to smaller local companies, from now on.
