"we replaced the problem areas yesterday"
I have already recommended P&R to a couple of neighbors and won't hesitate to recommend to any that ask. I was very pleased with the outcome.
The owner called a few weeks later and said that he had 7 pallets of Floratam that he needed to unload and would give it to me at a discounted price. I accepted the offer and his crew came out promptly to prep the ground and installed the sod. They took down a portion of the fence to get the pallets in the back yard. A few weeks later, a storm came out and blew down the portion of fence they removed. I called to inform them of this and the gentleman who answered the phone immediately began to berate me, thinking I was asking them to replace my fence. I told him he needed to calm down and that I was only asking if they would come back out to simply nail the fence back up for me. He immediately became very apologetic and said he would come out to fix it. He never did. Now on to the worse part of this story.
After a couple of months, it became evident that the sod was doing poorly. There were large portions of sod that were obviously dying. I called the owner and he came out to inspect the sod. He stated that I was going to have a difficult time keeping sod alive on this property due to the shade and acidic soil due to leaves falling (As if he didn't know this before he took my money). He gave me some additional advice about using lime to balance the PH. I was vigilant in following his advice. As time has passed, virtually all of the sod he installed is DEAD. The only portion living is a patch that has strong sunlight for several hours a day. Essentially 6 out of 7 pallets died. I am of the belief that the owner was well aware that this sod would die and that he was dishonest and misleading so as to make the sale. I understand he is in business, but if a businessman pushes a product that he knows will not thrive, his honor and reputation is questionable. As an aside, there was a patch of grass in front of my house that is HEAVILY shaded. I bought a pallet of palmetto from a sod distributor close to home and it is thriving 1 1/2 years later. Proof positive that palmetto is the appropriate sod for heavily shaded properties. I would invite the owner to contact me if he has desire to do right to this very disappointed customer.
Here are the problems I have:
Sloppy placement - Sod wasn't trimmed very well in areas. It overlapped the driveway and had to be cut by my husband. There are gaps between some pieces. This will probably fill in time but now it's enough to turn my ankle when I walk on them. There were actually 5 pieces of sod that were just thrown on top of the sprinkler heads.
Didn't follow customer instruction: There is an area on the side of my landscaping beds that was missed in the original quote. I called
Pand R and corrected this to include the area. The easy part of the area was sodded, but the area that included cable boxes, water
meters and palm trees was left undone. This is the area that is mostly weeds. Granted, because of the way my landscaping is, this
area looks like it belongs to my neighbor. But it isn't, and it looks terrible.
Cleanup was mediocre. There were sod pieces all around and my brick driveway was a mess. I've never had to re-sod before so I really don't know if this is normal.
Lastly, I'm not the type to follow workers around to inspect everything. I trust that the job will be done correctly. I guess that's my bad.
"She advised us that she had fertilized once after 30 days and 3 more times since. She said she used miracle grow plant fertilizer which is not intended for lawns and is very high in nitrogen. It would burn the grass. We told her we would still replace the areas in the back yard that did not root in. That would be our responsibility. But the original problem still exists. More and more rain every day has compounded the harvesting problem. She understood and agreed to wait. We called again on 9-24-13 to let her know we had not forgotten her and to please be patient with us. She was understanding once again. It seems it may be drying out mover the next week or so but we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature. [member name removed] has been very patient and understanding. We are very apologetic and understand her frustrations. No one wants Bahia sod to come in more than us. After all, we are in the sod business! We have assured [member name removed] we will replace the areas we discussed as soon as we get the sod."
