This was the first time I went to German Elite Auto having seen them on Angie's list. On driving up to the shop I was a little leary and surprised as it was more like the old garages I am used to in that you could actually talk to a mechanic and see the work they were doing. Victor and his crew were extremely knowledgeable and showed me the bad/broken or problem parts and explained the impact of repair/replace/ leave alone issues.
One of the first problem areas was repairing the cylinders on the soft top. The cost (Victor's cost) for the cylinders from Mercedes was almost $6,000. Victor showed me where he buys and what he pays. I asked him if he minded if I tried to source the cylinders myself and have him install and check them. He was very open and replied no problem as long as he was only warrantying his work and not the parts and that seemed fair. If he bought the parts himself he would stand behind them. I found a person who would provide rebuilt cylinders with a 3 year warranty and had them shipped to Victor. He installed them and checked them.
Victor's team completed the rest of the work on time and kept me apprised of progress along the way. They were very open and forthcoming on which issues needed work and which did not or could be deferred.
Overall, he is the most knowledgeable and open mechanic I have ever worked with. In the realm of german car service shops, his labor rate is more than reasonable and his knowledge is unparalleled. During the process, he gave me his cell phone number and encouraged me to call anytime (which I did, several times).
There need to be more auto service organizations like German Elite Auto.

Required pulling entire engine out. No extra charges that were not part of the estimate. Victor and his employees really knew what they were doing. Finished the job ahead of schedule.Also, took my Mercedes there and he was honest enough to say I'd be better off going to the dealership due to parts availability. He was right, dealership took over a month to get a catalytic converter shipped out of Germany. His diagnosis was right on.
