Dryer Vent Cleaning by ER Vents

Ron Dubay came to my home due to an inoperable dryer vent. This is an older home, and when we bought it we found (quite by accident) that the dryer vent was inoperable and had been sealed off and the dryer hose reattached so that it appeared to be working. When my clothes wouldn't dry and water poured out from the dryer, we found the problem. After a little more investigating, we found a hole cut in the window screen that was apparently used to accommodate the vent hose. We just wrongly assumed there was a terrible problem hidden in the vent and continued using the window vent. Having bought a new washer and dryer, I decided it was time to have a new vent drilled into the side of the house. Thank goodness that the gentleman who delivered the dryer was kind enough to say that the new vent would be expensive and a cleaning may be all that was needed. So, that is when I called Ron Dubay. I figured a cleaning was worth a try. He explained that his procedure is to clean the dryer first. He then cleans the vent from the inside of the house until he reaches either the top of the vent or the blockage. He goes to the top of the roof and cleans the "goose neck" of any blockage or lint. He is efficient and cleans up behind himself. I brought my vacuum out to clean up the mess coming out of the vent on the inside, and he said no need for me to do that. He comes prepared to take care of everything from the moment he arrives until the moment he leaves and not a speck of lint is anywhere. When he came down from the roof, he had a huge wad of lint that had been packed at the top of the vent for who knows how long. "This," he said, "is your problem. You are lint free and blowing hot air out of there now. You do not need to spend all that money for a new vent. This one is like new now." You could see the imprint of the "varmit" screen to keep unwanted visitors from coming into the stack on the mass of lint he removed. I had never used that vent, so I'm sure it had to have been in there MUCH longer than the two years that we have owned the home. He told me that was the problem. He also told me that he would call in 12-14 months and come to clean again. At that point, he would be able to tell from the amount of lint in the vent whether it would need cleaning one a year or less. He said there was no point in spending money every year if it was unnecessary. He was great, helpful, informative, fast and very VERY reasonable in price. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone have a problem or just interested in preventative care.
