STILES & SOWERS

Stiles-Sowers Construction was recommended to us to do some water intrusion related repairs including water proofing, open walls to check for mold,stucco,install a french drains, remove excess soil, repaint and remove damaged wood floors and reinstall new wood. Ed Buckler came to the house and handed me his Stiles-Sowers business card. he previewed the damage in several areas of the home and gave me an estimate which included all of the above along with some miscellaneous small repairs that included tightening the shower door hinges, sealing two gutter cracks and replacing a broken shower tile. We agreed on the price and to start the job immediately. Ed assured me in his own words "that working with an old timer I can be assured good quality, honest work and that he would be here throughout to be certain it was done right". The first subcontractor laborers showed up, weren't sure they were at the right house and showed me a piece of paper they were given on where to dig around the foundation of the house to waterproof and install the drains. I asked if Ed was coming to which they replied no. After they finished digging I told them they were supposed to have dug along the entire length of the wall. I immediately called Ed and he showed up approx 45 minutes later and told me he would take care of it that he knows what he is doing. The waterproof co, painters, landscaper came and went with Ed only stopping by on occasion at the end of each day. When the exterior portion was "done" Ed had the floor company removing the damaged wood flooring in the interior and reinstalling the new wood (which was an additional cost out of my pocket). Having never retested the repaired areas before reinstalling the new wood, water came into the house re damaging the newly installed wood floors!! The shower door man came only to tell me that it could not be tightened or fixed that i would have to replace the entire glass enclosure for $3000+ (I personally called another company who replaced the hinges and fixed it for a couple hundred dollars) He lied about repairing the leaky gutter which wasn't touched. He never opened my walls to look for mold and insisted I pay him because he needed to pay the subcontractors to which I did. When the water re entered the house worse than before two days later I called Ed and he came over. He agreed that work needed to be redone but I needed to pay him again to do it!!!! His subcontractor Derek Jenks who installed the "french drains" we found out after digging up what they had installed was not a french drain but plastic boxes filled with white shells to which he also stuffed the community drains that run though my yard with. Derek also showed up at my house claiming to "help" me by ripping out the dry wall in the bedroom to check for mold because he felt bad that Ed didn't do what he was supposed to. Almost two years later and 30+contractors I'm left with a trashed, shell filled, stuffed drainage backyard, same leaky gutters, ripped open dry wall and damaged wood floors, making my sons bedroom totally inhabitable and no one willing to fix what Ed left us!
