Again in the beginning of year seven we were faced with another $1,200 repair when we decided to seek quotes to replace our existing unit.
We did not consider this provider. Our experience with the existing unit was enough. The response by employees was defensive. Every time we had someone come out to look at the unit it was a different technician. Each technician criticized the work and opinion of the previous technician.
The last straw was when the condenser went out (one month after the warranty ended) though we had planned to replace within the warranty period, but were told by one of the technicians that it was not the condenser. Romeo A/C did take care of the condenser after some confrontation.
We did have conversations with Julie Romeo on various occasions. She was always professional and showed interest and concern. Unfortunately, we can't say the same for our interaction with other employees.
Romeo A/C installed a unit in our 2,700 sq ft home that was not the appropriate size for the home. Specifically, the duct work was inadequate, placing tremendous stress on the unit. Our belief is Romeo A/C worked within the amount afforded by the builder though inadequate to properly retrofit the home. Our advise to Romeo would be if you know that what the builder is recommending is not adequate don't take the job and put you reputation on the line.
When the unit was initially installed, the company left doors unlocked, undersized duct work that was supposed to have been resized and correctly designed to provide air control to all rooms. When one room was too hot, they told me that the installer put the wrong size air handler in. Instead of fixing the problem, they were more than happy to add another vent and a thermostat for an additional $1300, which should never have happened in the first place. To pay for their errors in design of the system was the last blow. We finally agreed on a lower price of $800 or so, but so what. It was done wrong in the first place.
The owner of the company has simply refused to have any conversations about the job and refuses to deal with a job that he initiated. Another of his clients tried to make him understand how important it was to discuss a job he sold, but it made no impact on Mr. Romeo.
Having spoken to other people that use Romeo as a subcontractor, they have indicated to me that they have also experienced very serious problems and poor communication and are dropping them from their preferred vendor list.
This was a great company at one time with extremely high customer service levels. It is a shame that they have fallen so far, but I would never use them or recommend them for any future business. I have moved to another supplier to service my needs. No one deserves this kind of poor treatment. There are great companies out there and to me, once burned, twice learned. Never again!
As for me, Romeo can go flirt with someone else.
"It was explained to [member name removed] that his home was designed per code and specs for Titan Custom Homes. All new construction homes have to prepare computerized load calculations and Energy Calculations. These are then passed on to the Building Department for approval. Per our records Baffles were installed after moving in because certain rooms were warm. After the baffles were installed they were never asked to be recheck until 2010 (5 years after install). We made three visits between the time we installed the baffles and 2010 and you never asked them to be checked. You have lived in the home since 2005 and I show you only maintained the system twice. Not maintaining your system will cause coil leaks, damage to components and a poor cooling. The issues you are currently having are probably due to a dirty unit. If the unit has not been cleaned since 2010, I am surprised it is even cooling at all. It will also void all manufacturer warranty, because the first thing they ask for service history. You called into our office this month threatening all kinds of action. We tried to have a calm conversation with you when you called. However, you did not allow anyone to get in a word in edge wise. In your discussions with our office you stated that you wanted your home to cool to 72 degrees inside. You stated that you got three quote and they were all 5 tons, that is because you told them you wanted it cooled at 72 degrees. It is against code to design a cooling system at 72 degrees. The 4 ton that you have installed is the correct tons. It would never have passed any inspections if it was the incorrect size. The current building code now requires load calculations to be performed when systems are replaced. The reason this code was put in place is because Contractor go out to home and assume based on square footage that a home needs a bigger system when they do not. They don't take into account the windows insulation or attic insulation. They use worse case scenario so the load will be higher and they can sell a more expensive unit . Also, When a system is oversize it will push more air the necessary, cooling the home down faster. However, this is a real problem in Florida because you want your system to run as long as possible to remove humidity. I have been into homes where units are over sized and I have seen drywall damage. It sounds like you are going to change to a 5 ton unit, I would highly recommend you go with 2 speed equipment and variable speed air handler. This will allow your equipment run on a lower speed and help with the humidity problem you may encounter."
"Hi Member, thanks for the comment. We take great pride with every installation we do. We look forward to working with you on any future projects. Julie Romeo"
