They showed up when they said they would. We chose them based on the fact that we had had an excellent move with North American from out of state. We were assured repeatedly that our fine furniture and belongings would be moved and stored with great care. Our estimate of what we paid them is under represented, but finally writing this review and don't want to go back and calculate the actual money spent with this company. When our things were delivered, there was damage to a number of pieces. This furniture has been moved numerous times over the last 25 yrs, all interstate corporate moves - all with zero damage. In each of those moves we also stressed the personal and monetary value of various pieces and they were packed and loaded accordingly. Where we made a mistake with this company was believing 1. The same care would be used as in prior moves 2. The basic insurance would be adequate because of that assumption. We would have much preferred that nothing would require repair, but the iinsurance we had with this company was very inadequate for the damage done. They earn a D rather than an F because all of the things we personally packed in cartons were in good condition. This included 2 sets of china and a lot of old glassware and collectibles.

Mostly it went well, HOWEVER, a few items were damaged.  The company repaired 2 of the 3 items damaged and refused to do anything about the 3rd item.  The 3rd item was a floor lamp with a shade which the company claimed was our responsibility to move.  The floor lamp and shade were actually moved by the company and damaged in the move.  Even if the company was correct in that it was our responsibility 'to move', the company moved the floor lamp and shade, for whatever reason.  When the company physically too possession of and moved the floor lamp and shade, for whatever reason, it, in our opinion, became the companies responsibility and when they damaged it, they should have honored their responsibility.  The company refused to pay for the damaged lamp shade.  Accordingly, we will never use this company again and we will never refer this company to anyone in the future.
Response from Ray the Mover Inc- North American Van Lines

"We provide written guaranteed prices for local moves. We meet with each customer and identify what services they would like for us to include in our bid. Many customers want us to pack and move everything; while others are very selective about that which we will do, and that which they want to handle themselves. [member name removed] contracted Ray the Mover to move "large furniture items only." He did so to keep the costs down. He was to move all of the small items in his own vehicle prior to our arrival. The small items included all lamps and shades. [member name removed] ran out of time and at the last minute asked my crew leader to move a few of the lamps and shades that he originally planned to move himself. Ray the Mover was not being paid for this, yet my crew leader, in an attempt to help him out, agreed as [member name removed] commented "it is OK, these are old lamps and shades." Even though we would normally request that the lamp shades be packed prior to loading, the crew leader did [member name removed] a favor and moved the lamps and shades. One of the shades was damaged, as was an upholstered ottoman. Ray the Mover took the ottoman to an upholstery shop and had it repaired. It was our fault, so we did the right thing and had it fixed (at a cost of $200.00). [member name removed] asked us to also reimburse him $50 for the damaged lampshade. We denied this claim. Ray the Mover has been in business in Southwest Florida since 1981. We work hard to assure that every move is stress free and damage free. Occasionally an item will be damaged. It is part of the business. As in the case of[member name removed]'s ottoman, we take care of these occasional accidents by repairing or replacing the damaged piece and assuring that the customer is left whole. As a small business owner I cannot be expected to pay for damage to an item that truly is not my responsibility, simply out of fear of a possible bad Angie's List review. I am in business to earn a living for my family and to help support the families of the 20+ employees who work along side me. I am a compassionate person, but also a good businessman. After paying the $200 to fix the ottoman, it would have been easy to simply pay [member name removed] the $50 for the lampshade. However being truly honest means being fair and consistent in your actions to everyone involved; including yourself. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to this complaint and hope that if you are ever in need of a moving company you will give Ray the Mover an opportunity to be of service to you. Kind regards, John Smarge, President"

I was very nervous, because I had read horror tales of movers breaking things, stealing things, and not showing up. I got estimates from 6 different moving companies, and this one fell about in the middle. The estimator was very professional, and presented the most detailed account of our items, as well as best advice. The movers came as scheduled and immediately went to work. I felt good about how they were packing the items, and the guy putting stickers on items took his job seriously. We did notice that they wanted to leave by 5 p,m. and rushed to get things done by then, but they had packed up all the things that we had packed (our fault for still having some things that we thought we could finish packing that day. Fortunately, my husband had already planned to rent a trailer to pull behind his pickup.) Our only frustration with the company was that they gave us a three-day window for delivery. Those three days were Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately, once we arrived, we learned that Monday was the only option, which did not work for us at all. We had to talk to a few people, but we worked it out for a later date that worked for us. I was not here for the delivery, but my husband was. The items arrived and there was only one damaged small table that my husband was able to repair. Moves are not fun, but I would use these people again.

Poor service, kept our items on a truck for over a week, broke an antique chair, delivered damp, collapsed boxes with several broken items. Did not follow up. Had used them previously but ownership and management changed. Would not recommend.
Response from Ray the Mover Inc- North American Van Lines

"This move actually occured in June of 2013. We did hold the items on our truck for over a week. This was done so, at the request of the customer, to accommodate them. I believe (member name removed) when she states that we damaged a chair, yet a Statement of Claim was never filed. Had we received one, a repair firm would have been assigned to make repair. In the end, (member name removed) and her partner (member name removed) were not pleased with our service. I am upset by that as I truly enjoyed our dealings together and wanted their move to go as perfectly as possible. We handle more than 2,000 moves each year and try to perform each one to perfection. When something does not go as planned, each member of our staff views it as a learning experience and questions what they could have done better. In this case, we found that a rubber seal on a door had come loose and allowed rain water to leak into an area of the truck. It should be noted that the ownership has not changed. I have been President of Ray the Mover since 1982 and continue to be personally involved with each and every move. (member name removed), I hope you are enjoying your Georgia home. Regards, John Smarge, President"

Two guys with appropriate sized truck showed up on time, completed Job in 4-5 hours without any problems or incidents. Very professional crew who took great care in wrapping items. They did breK my office desk but it was a $79.00 piece of junk so it probably wasn't their fault. All in all a great move experience. I would use them again without hesitation.

Their sales rep gave a lot of tips on how to reduce the cost, and his estimate of 7,000 lbs. was very accurate as the actual weight was 6,980 lbs.

For several moves, they were excellent. There was lack of communication on the last move. I liked what they did and I liked all the drivers they gave me, but office communication with the last move was horrible. I would use them again in the future.

The personalities of the movers were not exactly the best. They were rude at times, and their service was poor. They did not follow up with requests. They didn't handle our belongings with respect, and they were not cautious.  They put fragile items on the floor of the truck and heavy items on top of those.  They put our boxes in the living room and then others in the garage, so that it was difficult getting to them and getting around them.
Response from Ray the Mover Inc- North American Van Lines

"Since 1981 Ray the Mover has prided itself on providing complete customer satisfaction. It is very obvious that for some reason we failed on this move. I am reaching out to customer to do whatever I can (7 months after the move) to make this right. W-I-T (Whatever it takes)"

This company was really great.  The man who came to do the estimate was not pushy at all and actually gave me tips for packing as well as the names of a few other reputable, local companies.  I got estimates from those companies, but Ray the Mover was the cheapest and most personable.  They also provided a lot of packing supplies free of charge.

The men who did the actual moving could not have been nicer.  My air conditioning broke the day the guys came to load the truck.  It was the middle of May and I lived in south Florida, so it was extremely hot.  The guys never complained and were very efficient.  They were also exactly on time.  The driver (I think his name was Ron) went above and beyond the call of duty.  He explained everything to me perfectly and made an inventory list of all of my belongings.  When he delivered my things to Pennsylvania, he MADE me tell him exactly where I wanted things, so that I wouldn't have to move them later.  It was raining on the day of delivery, but the guys still worked their butts off.  When they finished unloading the truck, Ron had me look over the inventory list (that corresponded with stickers with numbers on them they had placed on the boxes and furniture) to make sure I had all of my stuff.  We realized we were missing a box, but Ron went out to the garage, started rooting through boxes, and found the missing box.  I'm a VERY organized person and I was unbelievably impressed with the way Ron kept track of everything.  Before leaving, Ron also told me that the charge was actually $9.75 LESS than the contract binder and that the company would be sending me a check!

My one and only complaint is that when I planned my moving date, I gave a 3 day window of when I would like to move (between May 10th and 12th) because this helped lower the cost.  The company was supposed to call me a minimum of 24 hours before the movers would be at my house to load my things.  I got a call from Ron, the driver, at 9pm on May 9th confirming that he would be at my house the following morning at 9 am.  Since I hadn't received a call from the company, I was taken by surprise when I got this call.  I was a bit irritated that the folks in the office had not notified me earlier and given me the 24 hour notice they had promised.   I spoke to Ron about this when he loaded my things (I wasn't upset with him, just slightly irritated with the lack of communication from the office) and he made sure that he called me 3 days before he planned to drop my things off.

These guys work extremely hard to take care of their customers and I would highly recommend providing them with drinks while they are working because they are very appreciative of that.  I would also recommend tipping the guys loading the truck because they are not always the ones who deliver your things and I think a tip before the move may also encourage the safe keeping of your things.

I would definitely use these guys again!

They only sent one man to pack my whole house, where they should have had two or three. They didn't get it packed the first day, and he had a helper with him on the second day--they finished around 5 PM the next day. They were timely, punctual, and they unpacked and placed the furniture where I wanted it. Overall it was a very good experience.
