Northstar was my lawn service for my vacation home in Naples for 1 year. In May 09 I had them replace some of the shrubs from the previous owner and he put in things like ferns that I specifically did not want. I then had to pay to remove the ferns and he put in petra crotons in 11/09. He then wanted to again redo the same bed in March of 2010, and in fact charged me for more plants in his last invoice. How many times did he want me to pay for shrubs to the same area in a year's time? He also removed and charged me for a date palm that I only asked him to spray. I have pages of emails asking him not to mulch the sides of my house, but he did anyway and insists he did nothing wrong and expects to be paid. In Feb. of 2010, I came down to my home and noticed plants infected with bugs,new plants with leaves that turned yellow or fell off, hacked pruning, weeds in the lawn and in particular 3 foxtail palms that I asked him to check the previous fall because they were turning brown and this was ignored and they had to be removed. He also had no consideration for my vacation time and never showed up when he said he was. I find his business practices unethical and emotionally draining. He needs to listen to the customer, prepare the proper documentation, supply drawings, get approval from the HOA if required, and get written approval for any work he plans to charge for before it is done. I felt like I was beating my head against the wall to try to communicate with them. I was very clear orally and in writing, repeating myself over and over again. I have never hired anyone that expects payment for unauthorized work. I feel he took advantage of the fact that I don't live there and only visit from time to time. I have worked with several landscapers since firing Northstar and all have been very accommodating and professional.
