We purchased the rug but couldn't take it back to the condo, so they agreed to store it over the summer & delivery it in the Fall.
Which they did!
This was a large and diverse project involving much more than flooring on a 16 year old, 3400 sqft single family home. We like the flooring selections that we chose but the flooring installation was a mess from the get-go. You'd think that the Naples Flooring Gallery would know what they are doing since and quot;flooringand quot; is in their name. We installed three different flooring types each of which is critiqued below. Each have imperfections explained below. Several other things they did for us are also disappointing.
We used ceramic tile in the kitchen, den, dining area and a screened porch. It is installed in a herring bone pattern. This looks OK and we do get compliments. But, if you look closely there are many defects (uneven, not flat, discolored grout). Even though we told them to and quot;floatand quot; the flooring to level it out the crew (a sub contractor, by the way) failed to do so on the first day. They had to come back and demolish everything they did. But our main complaint on this section is that they did not properly cover the floor after installing it and all the contractors kept working on and around the flooring which permanently discolored the gray grout that we chose. It is much whiter than it should have been due to drywall mud and who knows what else that got embedded into it. They attempted many times to clean it to our satisfaction but failed to do so.
We also had marble flooring installed in the great room, master bath, one bedroom and a hallway. There are chips in the marble, and again they did not properly and quot;floatand quot; the floor underneath. That same tile crew had to redo a large portion again. Pathetic! The tiles are not as even as they should be either. This installation crew grew very frustrated and one day we and quot;had wordsand quot; with one of their crew leaders. Things went downhill after that point. They ended up leaving one guy on the job and it took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to finish their portion of the job. I suppose that was our punishment for the previous altercation. We were so happy to see them leave that we (stupidly) didn't critique their work like we should have. We ended up having to get on our hands and knees to scrape away excess grout that was left on the surface. We continue to find globs of grout when we clean the floor. There are also slightly discolored areas all over this expensive marble that takes away from the beauty. They put the sealer on an improperly cleaned floor. Yikes.
The master shower was enlarged and totally redone. It looks good but, unfortunately, the floor tile crew also did this and the one guy was as slow as you could be. Unbelievably, they reinstalled the original rusty screws in the shower drain cover. Within a month the grout began cracking in the corners of the walls and floor. The Flooring Gallery sent their own employees to fix those defects (they claimed cracking was normal).
They also installed carpet, which has a pattern, in 4 bedrooms. They didn't get this right either. In 3 bedrooms the carpet was installed with the pattern facing the same direction. In the 4th bedroom they installed the carpet with the pattern going in the opposite direction. We notice the little things!
They designed and installed cabinets for our kitchen, laundry room and three bathrooms. The design wasn't well thought out in a couple key areas. The drawers in a guest bath cannot be opened unless the bathroom door is closed and the vent hood is off center (distance between cabinets) in the kitchen. The color of the kitchen cabinets do not match the trim color that they installed, which is quite noticeable. Just about all of the cabinet hardware was installed crooked. We noticed that the installer (another sub) and quot;eyeballedand quot; it instead of taking the time to measure and install correctly. We also had a lot of clean up to do ourselves on the cabinets after their installation. Very nice guy; just slower than we would have liked and a bit lacking in quality.
A few of the remodeled walls that were added are now cracking in the corners. Another wall that was added in the kitchen is not straight, which makes the cabinets look crooked. The tile backsplash in the kitchen is not smooth and was not installed properly either.
The electrician they used as a sub (John Schloendorn) was very good and the highlight of our relationship. The plumber was also very good as well. We will use them again in the future.
We had two contacts to work with at the Flooring Gallery. At the very beginning we had lots of confidence in both of them and we really liked their design ideas as well as their focus on keeping costs under control. The trouble is that these two people had trouble interacting with one another. That forced us to speak with one or the other after having to consider whether it was his or hers portion of the project. We quickly learned that they didn't want to be burdened with telling their counterpart something we wished to pass along to them. We should have insisted on having one primary contact and we should have insisted that he or she be on the job site much more frequently. What took them more than four months to complete could have been done in half the time had they kept the subs in check. Perhaps the quality of their work would have been better as well.
The owner of the Naples Flooring Gallery sure didn't care enough to get involved in our large dollar contract. We think he came by the project only one time and saw no evidence that he was helping us in any way. At the end of our job they started getting busy with other projects (mostly condominiums) and we felt more like a nuisance than a valued customer.
It is painful for us to give them a bad review. Deep down they are nice folks. But their quality is mediocre at best. The bottom line is we cannot, in good conscience, recommend the Naples Flooring Gallery to anyone. Maybe we should have paid more for another contractor to do the work.
