"Thank you for the review!"
"Thank you for the review, Mr. [Member Name Removed]! We appreciate it."
taking out the old shower and converting into a closet I would grade a B. Only because the metal shelves were installed with little clearance making it hard to move them out of the way for me to paint the walls.
The showcase was to be the two station shower. This is a big shower, 5ft. 2in. by 7ft. The first day of construction was to take out the old tub and walls, old shower, move drain in floor and water lines. OK so far, they did not have a heavy duty hammer drill to take out the needed area in the floor slab to install the new floor drain. Next day they had the proper tool and started building. Water was moved, walls correctly put in, all no problems. Being a non standard size they had to custom build a floor pan and did so with concrete. Whoops, not enough concrete, see you tomorrow. Back with the concrete, that part done. This was all done freestyle and is not really perfect as it is a little wavy. grade it a C. Now the sheets of tile and center drain, the grout lines do not line up in several areas and the center drain trim was not square to the tile and had them resquare it. Grade that part of the job a D- . The back wall has a full length bench, as they were building it I asked that they pay careful attention and pitch it so water would run off the bench. Grade that a F, also the step in to the shower is not pitched in enough, another F. The selection of hardware for the showers was great, only problem, they ordered the wrong diverter valve, more delays and a phone call to Chicago to straighten it all out because that is where everyone was attending a workshop to replace the product they were using on my wall with another of equal quality but having a lower price. I got the higher price material and never was told they were getting a new line of material. The glass doors from their supplier were late, promised, late again and again. Finally arrives but the top rail is not correct and we have some more delays. Finally done, finished caulking and did final caulk with a clear next to the opaque that had been used. Clear is a far better look and I ask if they will recaulk to clear. " I'll get back to you on that and I agree, clear does look better." Still waiting Jose. Nice guy, full of promises, wants this to be the showcase job in the resort and hopes to get a lot of business on the project. He was to be on top of this job the whole way, it was to be perfect. No way Jose. He will have all the excuses. Still waiting for all of the warranty paperwork, sick of hearing the excuses. They sent a electrician, son of the owner of the electric company and a helper to install a ceiling fan and shower light. They arrived without anyone saying they were coming. Between Hometowns crew and me,[ having electrical knowledge] taught the two young lads how to do the job. They needed a circuit breaker and did not have one so I taught him how to tap into another breaker. Final grade, screen job A, closet conversion B, and shower, anything from a B to an F, shower overall I give a C- to a D
There were some minor issues mainly the framer being overbook and delaying the project for four weeks but overall HTC and especially Amanda and Leon did everything they could to keep the sun room project from taking longer than the 90 days estimate. It actually took 94 says to complete the project. Just as they were finishing the sun room I contacted them to pour a 10'x16' concrete slab outside the new sun room and had it covered with an insulated aluminum cover. They started the second job within two weeks and it was completed in five days. There were issues in the concrete not drying quickly and the concrete mason stayed past dark to finish the slab correctly. Because of rainy weather the two man team who installed the aluminum cover came on a Sunday morning to finish the job because they knew I was entertaining twenty people for a church dinner that night and wanted the project completed. I used HTC because I had talk to one of their reps at a local church fair and had seen their advertisements on TV. Also they had won local awards voted by consumers. They are very professional and I would recommend them to my friends and family.
I have plenty of pictures and videos to show their work.
As of the writing of this review I'm still trying to get a issue resolved.
How this company won so many awards with the crew working on my project is beyond my understanding.
On 12/30/13 they came out to fix a problem, AGAIN. They did no do the work I approved and install seam covers I didn't authorize and don't like, not to mention doing a poor job AGAIN!!!! No resolution at this time.
"After receiving the customers initial complaint on 12-18-13, the customer was contacted on the same day (12-18-13) and an appointment was scheduled for Monday 12-30-13 to have a crew and supervisor out to resolve any issues customer had. As requested by the customer, on Sunday (12-29-13) the customer was contacted to confirm appointment for Monday (12-30-13) and customer confirmed Monday was still good. On Monday 12-30-13 our crew and a supervisor showed up and made the changes the customer requested. The customer was not present when crew completed the service, therefore unable to confirm satisfaction or address any additional issues. Our office called the customer Tuesday at 7:02 AM the following morning, 12-31-13, and left a voice mail message to follow up and see if customer had opportunity to inspect the work and asked customer to call our office. After no return call or any communication from customer our office again called customer on Thursday (1-2-14) morning and left another message to follow up and asking that customer call the office. As of the today, we still have had no response from the customer. In order to resolve the issue and satisfy the customer, we ask that the customer communicate with our office. If we had known there was something on the project that still did not meet his/her satisfaction we would have addressed it. It is difficult to resolve an issue when you learn that an issue remains through Angie's List and a customer does not return phone calls or contact our office using any form of communication. At this point, we ask the customer to call our office and coordinate a day and time (even a weekend or after normal business hours if necessary) that customer can be home and allow crew and supervisor to make adjustments that satisfy customer."
Now because I liked HomeTown thought I would try again. A few months later and after numerous calls from the company for previous clients I called for another estimate to build a non heated/non cooled/no electric 16 x 24 detached garage in my backyard. This time someone else from HomeTown came out and again they quoted me $30,000+. I am starting to think they might have lost money on my first project and are trying to make it back.
I received other estimates from other companies and just had my garage built (May 2013) for a grand total of $12,000!!
Don't get me wrong, I like HomeTown with Paul and company but I just could not justify my estimates.
This, "No-fluff" estimate came from a previous job that HomeTown did for us that was a complete screw-up from the planning and logistics side.....the guys who actually performed the work did a spectacular job and we would recommend them to anyone....but not the company. The 1st job started 10 days late, took 2 weeks longer than it was supposed to and had to be re-planned by Gabe, one of the construction guys, because the initial planning was done so badly that time and materials were wasted.......and the costs passed on to us.
Anyway, we NEVER heard back from HomeTown Contractors with the estimate on the roofing project. Once Jose left our home....that was it - we havent heard a word from them since.
While we love the result of the 1st project they did for us, it was due to the workers efforts that it was done right and well....not the company planning & logistical folks. The Project Coodinator is not competent (in my opinion) and, based on that and our previous experience - we will never use OR RECOMMEND HomeTown Contractors to anyone.
