"Hi [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry that you had a negative experience with our company. However, our records indicate that we provided updates to your husband several times throughout and were always responsive. We also explained to your husband and he agreed that your issues with your A/C had absolutely nothing to do with the roofing process. Meaning your A/C did not stop working due to our roofing work. The delays that did arise (tile delivery & tile placement) were completely out of our control. Due to the storms in recent years, tile manufacturers are experiencing delays nationwide. With Florida being one of the biggest markets for roof tile, we feel and are affected by those delays even more. Also due to the recent demand in tile roofs is a shortage in professional tile installers. We don't just drive by home depot and hire anybody to put tile on our roofs. We only hire experienced and professional tile layers that will provide work to meet our high standards. Again, we apologize if you had a negative experience but would appreciate you adjusting your review to be accurate and fair."
I decided to go with springer roofing,
Steven springer, the CEO/founder, seemed a bit rough around the edges, however
appeared to be professional and explained that I needed strap to wall and gave
me a quote, then changed it to include ?unseen surprise wood?. Well, his
contract his completely made up in a way to take advantage of consumers, as he
is covered by the 713.08 florida statute. There is a hidden clause in his
contract, that pretty much states that he could give you an entire new bill
without cause or warning and that you have to pay for it or that he will put a
lien on your property. (which he threatens to do as soon as he sends the outrageous
additional costs). He quoted me 16,000 for a new roof with surprise wood
damage, the strap to wall and states that he includes a 50 year warranty due to
the shingles used and will provide a mitigation report to provide to the
insurance.
After paying Steven his 16,000 dollars, I was sent a nearly 8k
additional bill. He stated that my roof was in dire state, and needed half it it with new plywood. The part that he
claims is half is 1900 square feet, he
added additional wood for 1400 sq ft. While doing the roof, shingles
were dropped in my sewer, which I had to have a plumber come take care of, as
raw sewage was overflowing the house. I had to pay someone else to pay for the uncompleted
work he did, and had to replace parts he stated that he replaced. My gutters
were left uninstalled and debris was left in the backyard. When I tried to
discuss it with him, he stated that he did his best, then stated that he would
just put a lien on the house. When I attempted to make payment arrangements, he
stated that I had to pay him nearly $10,500, as I now had to pay his attorney
costs, a loan, interest while the property would pretty much be his, if a
payment was defaulted even if due to a holiday. I did what I could and followed
my attorney?s advice and paid him, as the Florida statute completely shields
him and gives him carte blanche to take complete advantage of people like me
who were not aware that there are such dishonest people. Then when I provided
him with a check writing in the memo that he was paid in full under protest and
that all rights are reserved, his attorney and him stated that I had no right
to write this on the memo. Now, if Steven truly had this bill in the right conscience,
why would he go into a conniption, stating that he refuses to cash the check
with what is written in the memo, and his attorney stating that I had no right
to put this in the memo? Aren?t we in America, I thought that as an American
citizen and consumer, I have the right to express myself as I see fit,
especially when being wronged and taken advantaged of. I still have not
received the warranty or mitigation report, which makes me wonder if the job
completed is even up to par, perhaps an inspector would not sign off on what
Springer Roofing ?Claims? to have completed.
The company is a fraud run by frauds who take advantage of people, beware of that
contract, the hidden clause in there is to forcibly take advantage of
vulnerable people, I am surprised that they are still in business. Even the
attorney who was so quick to threaten to
file a lien, has not even responded to sending the warranty or mitigation
report.
"Dear Ms. [Member Name Removed], we are sorry to hear you have had a negative experience with our company. However, to call us a fraud would be inaccurate as we have spent a lot of time and money to ensure that we are not that. We are licensed (the owner is the actual license holder) and insured under our own company with both workman's comp and general liability. We also seek legal counsel for both our customers and our company's protection and to ensure we are following all laws and regulations which leads to our contract and what it entails. We work with permits and to code. As far as the wood bill, this is an industry norm. We can only give a quote for what we can assess at the time of the estimate. No contractor can predict just how much rotten wood will be found once the roof is tore off. Sometimes it can minimal but other times it can be severe which was the case with your particular roof. For example we had to replace 1,408 sq ft of plywood out of 1,961 sq ft and repaired 48 roof trusses. There were pictures provided showing the extent of rotten wood and the need for replacement. This also should not have been a surprise as we have the conversation of possible wood bills with all our customers upon delivering the initial contract. With you specifically, we informed you of possible severe damage that may be found due to previous roof coatings that were used to temporality patch about a half dozen roof leaks. This is exactly why we gave you special pricing (below industry norm) to give you a break since the extent of damage was so great. As far as taking legal action, this client was offered several financing options initially to pay back the balance of the wood bill. Instead, the client took the initiative to seek an attorney in an effort to not have to pay the bill at all. We then had to respond with our own attorney to represent our company. Our attorney took the steps necessary to defend our company and attempt to recover the unpaid bill. The warranty is included in the contract on the last page above your signature. Again, we are sorry that this turned into a negative experience. That is definitely not our goal and we as a company will take this situation to learn from it. Although the mitigation is not included in the contract, we will provide you with one within the next 30 days."
"[member name removed], thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. It makes us so proud and happy to know we are making our customers happy."
