I called for an estimate on a wall replacement, bathroom renovation, and a kitchen renovation. Someone came out about a week later and said he would get back with me in two days with an estimate. Three weeks later l still had not heard from him so I called the office. Two days after that the he called and said that they were too busy and could not do my job. This really messed up my time frame. Why didn't he just tell me up front that he couldn't do the job?

on budget, on time, in full. He always responded to our calls, he did a very good job.

Not only the job was done very well and on time, the owner made us feel like we were his only clients (and we could be demanding).
We would use them again for our next project.
We had received quotes that were less, but I doubt they would have provided the quality of work Shear did.

Started Jan 2 for 6-8 WEEKS and ended Dec 3. The tile man was horrible. We fired him three times, but Gary Shear intervened and told us that the tile man would do better. He didn't. The tile in the showers are loose and have tape on them to hold them in place. The shower tiles (very expensive) are chipped by poor cutting techniques. The floor tiles have hollow spots and some individual floor tiles were replaced 5 times and still aren't right. The tile man used an abrasive to clean the grout on a high gloss tile and ruined 35% of the tile. Gary did offer to replace the floor tile but after 11 months we said, "No way." and took a cash settlement and 1,000 ft of tile instead. They installed 4 floating marble counter tops and not one was level from front to back (later fixed) and one is seperating from the wall 5 months later. The plumber installed the expensive bidet handles too tightly and it stripped in January. (Also the pipes bang in the master bath when turned off.) Their clean up was lousy and one employee was confronted for stealing and 2 items disappeared. The shower man chipped numerous tiles installing the three shower doors and completely screwed up and drilled a hole in the tile wall by accident. (Due to multiple tile replacements, there were no spare tiles to fix the one with the hole so it is still in the wall. We have few to no tile in reserve except for the floor.) The hurricane windows were installed and leaked during the next rain. Caulk from the windows and doors were on the walls, trees, and bushes. A large chip in a granite counter top with a poorly installed patch that has fallen out. Framing and drywall was good. Drywall patching was excellent. Custom cabinetry was excellent. Cabinet installation was rough with some damage. Baseboards throughout the house are not flush with the floor.
I would recommend with concern Shear Construction for framing, drywall, and custom cabinets with a VERY clear contract and daily inspections.

Never heard from him again! We had the feeling that we would not hear from this company after he left. He took very few notes (that means he is very good at what he does or really doesn't want the job) and never asked one question about what we wanted to achieve. We must have the worst luck with all of these "A" rated Angie's List companies, out of the four that we contacted regarding this job, only this one bothered to even show up. And then this one really didn't want to be bothered to do the job.

He was very responsive and nice. He was a very good general contractor.

Gary was punctual and very professional, he shows great knowledge and experience of what he does. Unfortunately our budget was much lower than his quote. I'm pretty sure that he charges accordingly to his experience and the quality of his work. At this moment we were recovering from a great monetary loss and we were trying to save as much as possible, the bathroom remodeling was not in our plans, we had to demolish it due to a leaking pipe that also extended the damage outside in our driveway

If it wasn't for our situation Shear Construction was the best candidate for this job.

Gary was a complete professional from the first day we met for his estimate. He made it clear that the price wouldn't be the lowest but that the quality would be the best and I can truly say that the result turned out fantastic. Gary and his team were a pleasure to work with from the early stages of design all the way through wrapping up any little details that were left behind. They helped my vision for my kitchen come alive with great recommendations that would tie in to the basic elements I had already decided. I would not have been able to imagine all of the little things which come up during a remodel of this scale but the Shears team had an attention to detail which helped make this process easy.

Gary is a fantastic contractor. He is extremely reliable and very responsive. He would answer calls and emails at any time of day (or night). We joked that he never slept. I will definitely be using his firm in the future for additional renovations and will refer him to all friends. He is getting our work done extremely fast and will likely finish before he originally estimated.

I have only great things to say about them. They have been very trustworthy and they always do a great job.

I liked him very much. He was right on time for our appointment. He was easy to talk to. I intend to get the work done by his company for this project. All of the people from his company that I have interacted with have been very helpful and accommodating--they even kept the showroom open late for me because I got lost on the way.

We contacted Gary Shear while at a home and remodeling show and gave him our information in order to obtain a quote for remodeling of 2 bathrooms and an outside Tiki Hut. He contacted us within a week to set up an appointment to come to our home and discuss the different things we wanted done. On the day of our appointment he called to confirm his arrival time and kept us up to the moment of his arrival. We discussed all the areas we wanted to remodel and felt very confident in his ability to understand what we wanted from our remodel job. He was very professional and explained everything in detail and to our satisfaction. We were promised a proposal by the end of the week and we received the same as promised. He was the first estimate we got so although we found the quote to be higher than we expected we do not have any other quotes to compare them with and we will be obtaining a couple more in order to make an educated decision within our budget. I would recommend this contractor because I think if he performs the job with the same organization, promptness and understanding of the job as he showed in giving the estimate, we would be very satisfied.

Gary Shear was phenomenal start to finish. He came and spent a lot of time to put together the initial quote. He was very helpful with ideas and all of the promises he made were kept. What is differentiating, is that he has his own company and employees, so they do all their own work and literally had 5-6 guys working on our house everyday. We've renovated before (using a different contractor) and the most frustrating thing is to visit the renovation to find very little progress made. That never happened with Gary. His job is to get your work done so he can move on to his next project. Our other two quotes were 4-5 months and Gary's was 10 weeks. We did a ton of work and it was amazing that he got it done on time! Also, Gary never pushed the truth, was always reachable and available, organized and never pushed for money. This is extremely rare for contractors in S. Fla!
In terms of quality of work, the work was top notch and thorough. If we didn't like how something looked or was done, they would redo it without any hint of opposition. His team is trustworthy and skilled.
Gary will admit that he isn't the cheapest (maybe 10% or so more), but trust me that is negligible, bc the money you will save by getting the job done faster and the hassle factor, make it a no brainer decision.
I can't emphasize how great it was to work with Shear Construction - they will do our next house and are already coming in to do some more work in the kitchen.

We had to completely remove our entryway ceiling in order for our A/C contractor to remove and replace the 60 year old leaking, non functioning A/C blower. It was a pretty small job as construction jobs go. Luckily we were put in contact with Gary and his company Shear Construction through a co-worker. With such a small job, we were worried we would be low on the scheduling list and or would get tradesmen coming in that were not the best he had to offer. That was not the case. Gary was great. He treated us as if this were a multi-million dollar project. He was always quick to respond when we had a question. And the different tradesmen that came in were polite, professional, good at their craft, and did a nice job cleaning up after themselves. We will definitely use them again when needed.

I couldn't be happier with the results of the new kitchen. It's beautiful! Gary Shear and Mike Miller were great and the whole team of skilled professionals did such quality work. It complelely changed the look of the downstairs living space. I love my new kitchen! Thanks!

They're wonderful. I've used them for all the work on our home. They're with us for life. If you call the owner and he's out, he's calling you back or texting you. He's constantly on the ball. If there's a problem, he's right here. He's just wonderful. We really lucked out when we found him.

Started and completed on schedule. Everything was to our satisfaction. Actually stood by things after warranty expired. Wonderful!

The construction went smoothly and quick. I was kept informed almost on a daily basis on the status of permits, schedules, and possible, if any, delays. I could not have asked for a more professional, no-nonsense, ORGANIZED contractor who always has a smile on his face!
