The heater failed within a 1.5 years. When the heater failed, we called Miami Water Heater, who suggested that we contact the manufacturer to see if it was covered under the manufacturer's warrantee. The manufacturer, American Heat, told us that the unit Miami Water Heater had sold us was too small for our home, and was meant only for single story, 1 bathroom home, and as such, was excluded from the warranty.
When we followed up with Miami Water Heater to tell them that they sold us the wrong unit, they claimed that they'd been installing the smaller unit in 2+ bathroom houses for years without any issues, and that, in any event, they didn't install American Heat products anymore due to poor quality. When we asked for them to make an accommodation for us and either repair or replace the defective unit due to their mistake, they told us we were out of luck. They were not willing to make any type of accommodation and would not even admit to their mistake.
Thankfully, American Heat stood behind their product and replaced the improper unit for the $50 cost differential between the smaller unit and the correct unit, rather than making us purchase a new $500 water heater out of pocket. They also told us that Miami Water Heater should have recommended the installation of a $20 pre-sediment filter that would increase the lifespan of the unit. In the end, we had to pay $370 to another company to install the new unit and filter, plus the $50 we spent on the replacement unit. So ultimately we paid a total of $420 to fix Miami Water Heater's mistake.
Miami Water Heater is an untrustworthy, unprofessional, and unreliable company. They were quick to shift blame to the manufacturer and claimed - after the fact, of course - that they sold us a product that they believed to be of inferior quality, and rather than working with us to rectify the issue, they wrefused to accept responsibility for selling us the wrong-sized unit for our new home. Thankfully, the manufacturer, American Heat, acted in a professional manner and worked quickly to rectify the installer's mistake, even though they were under no obligation to do so.
Instead - they sent me to Home Depot to by the parts for $45. I admit I was a bit hesitant to do it my self. But the gentleman, knew that I had already taken the water heater apart to "re-set" the thermostate several times. Replacing the thermostat was not much more difficult then re-setting it.
They did offer to do it but told me he would feel guilty taking my money when he knew I could do it.
