Going to try and keep this as short as possible.
I had been looking for a pool contractor for about a year while i got the money together to build my dream pool. In early April i had the money and chose 2 companies (Gray and Ginnie pools) to bid on the final project. I ended up going with Gray because apples to apples they were a tad less expensive (in hindsight Ginnie’s sales person was an architect who seemed to be very thorough). Both companies told me i would be swimming by the first 2 weeks of July so on April 17th I signed a contract with Gray/Dolphin Pools. I didn’t end up swimming until the third week of August and the Hot Tub wasn’t fully functional until December.
Pros:
1.
1. 1) You call them to give you an estimate and they are totally on it! They will be there the next day. If you have questions during the planning negotiating process they will be answered very quickly.
2. 2) The Pool is beautiful!
3. 3) Aggressive Pricing!
Cons:
1. 1) Very sloppy during the excavation process. They left 2 huge piles of rocks (my property sits on a lime stone foundation) and the rocks that they excavated sat for weeks on another part of my lawn and eventually killed a lot of grass. That could have been avoided if they would have removed the rocks much quicker. i also cut off my sprinklers where the pool would go but sure enough when the dug the ditch to connect the equipment to the pool they chopped up the main sprinkler line. When i asked if they would pay for it they said in the contract it states that they are not responsible for anything on or under the ground. They also ran over my mail box in the front of the house, but did pay for the replacement of that.
2. 2) i never seemed to get a str8 answer as far as time lines go because my point person (sales men that came to my house) i don’t think was a builder. he never really knew where we were on the project and when i would ask him when they would be back out he would either not know or give me a wrong answer. a week before the pool was to be complete (early July ) i asked if we were still on schedule and would the pool be ready to swim in middle July because i was planning a party. He assured me that we were on schedule and sure enough the pool took another month to complete and i had to cxl the party. i understand there are delays in construction, but i feel if they should have been more up front.
in closing if you are going to do business with Dolphin/Gray i would ask for a point person besides the sales person to and to give you a definite time line of work to be completed. Make sure they do a better job of cleaning up!
"Every story has two sides. To start, permits took longer than usual because the owner did not know they had a septic tank. Permits were submitted on the 29th of April, and contract was signed on the 17th of April; base on our contracts the pool starts after the dig date, which the pool was dug on the 9th of May. Then, permits were released on the 2th of May. From this problem, homeowner contracted an electrician to do a sub panel, which Ray Lopez went and was on the site with the homeowner and electrician, Ray Lopez asked the electrician if the work done was legal and he said yes. Work was going smoothly until June 17, where our rough/slab inspection was partial due to a violation towards the electricity service. On June 20th, another electrical inspector went to the property; however he had no access, which also occurred on June 24th with another inspector. On June 25th, inspector Richard Green gave an approved partial on the bonding points to proceed with the deck. Inspector Mr. Green, in front of [member information removed] (homeowner) and Robert Leon (Builder), told the homeowner that the pool cannot be plastered until there was a service change on the electrical because it was done incorrectly. Gray Dolphin brought their electrician to the site to help [member information removed] pull out the permit and fix the incorrect job the previous licensed electrician did. This caused for Gray Dolphin to do a revision on their electrical plans to take off the heater because [member information removed]’s electrical panel couldn’t take a heater. It took a month to get the service changed approved (July 19) from the county, and from there FPL took a month (August 6) to make an appointment to change out the cables to be able to do the electrical work. As soon as the service was completed, on August 12th the pool was plastered. It took 63 days to build the pool, this includes the electrical service problem, the rainy days (May: 12 days of rain, June: 13 days of rain, and July: 15 days of rain according to holidayweather.com), and revisions. The pool was finalized on November 27th due to revisions that needed to be done, which Gray Dolphin did at no cost. From here is when the heater was installed. The reasons that the heater was removed from plans were because [member information removed]’s panel was a 150 Amp, for it to be done under the county it needed to be 200 Amps. For this to be done correctly, this job would have cost an approximately $3,500 instead [member information removed] paid his electrician $500, which caused all this time to waste from the beginning. Gray Dolphin went out of their way to fix the panel at their cost. Due to excavation process, extra material needed to be left at the property to be able to use and raise his yard for his deck because his property sits to low. Every pool company contracts state that the company is not responsible for underground utilities (this answers the issue with the sprinkler line); including our contract. Final payment was received the 26th of December. Since the week of August 12th, homeowners have been swimming in their pool. [member information removed] was fully aware of the process; we do not understand why [member information removed] would mention the comment on “never seemed to have a straight answer.” The communication was through [member information removed], not [member information removed]. We thank you for the comments; the pool did come out beautiful; therefore as a construction company we strive to clarify any miscommunications with our customers. Thank you for choosing Gray Dolphin Pools, and hope you enjoy your beautiful Pool!!"
